Blackpool have avoided a 12-point deduction this afternoon after the EFL saw sense and decided not to impose sanctions on the club.
They’ve recently been put into receivership, not because they can’t pay the bills but as part of the complex financial wrangling that saw Owen Oyston’s family finally removed from posed.
The despised former owner had allegedly bled the club dry, taking them from the Premier League to League Two and refusing to sell up.
After fans boycotted home games and years of protesting, they finally reached their hallowed ground this year as Oyston was deposed. Sadly, it meant the club had to go into receivership, taking a fall before a climb.
The usual punishment under such circumstances is a 12 point deduction, but these are no usual circumstances.
Fans were angry at the EFL for allowing Oyston to drive the club into the ground for so long, but with a huge amount of troublesome owners, it wouldn’t have been easy for them to intervene.
Still, with today’s decision comes a degree of sanity and understanding from the EFL, something these fans have welcomed warmly.
