Tranmere Rovers impressive winning streak came to an end at North-West rivals Oldham Athletic last night.
A Callum Lang brace meant Rovers could not extend their run of seven straight victories and missed the chance to move up to fourth place in League Two.
Backed by over 2300 fans, Tranmere never recovered from falling behind in the seventh minute when Lang netted after a clever individual run. Despite exerting pressure on the Oldham goal in the second half, they went two down against the run of play when Lang completed his double with half an hour to play.
The defeat was Rovers first in ten games; Scintillating form which has seen them rise from the playoff fringes to serious automatic promotion contenders in what has been an excellent first season back in the EFL after their promotion from the National League.
News of the disappointing result was generally greeted with perspective by supporters, many just happy to be in the promotion mix in their first season back in League Two. Here is a selection of their responses on Twitter.
we go again if someone offered 5th place with 6 to play 4 points behind automatic promotion at the start of the season i would of took it with both hands this is far from over. #SWA #TRFC

It's only a puncture on the tyre of the promotion bus, change the wheel and drive on. The rovers promotion route is always the hardest route. We can do this.

That was awful, but may be a good thing with regards a reality check, which was needed!

Well as Bury got beat at home 0-3 we haven't lost any ground on 3rd place so not sure why all the negative comments. it was our game in hand after all. Oh ye of little faith lets be positive 😀👍

Chuck it in the f**k it bucket. Dust down and finish the season with a 6-match winning run. Give it all you've got. #onemoretriptothemoon #SWA #trfc
