Oldham Athletic sprung a surprise in League Two last night, taking down Tranmere Rovers at Boundary Park.
The visitors were on a tremendous run of form and looked set for an assault on the top three, but a Callum Lang brace ensured Pete Wild’s side moved to within a couple of wins of the top seven.
A play-off place looks to be beyond them at this stage, but the win was an important one nonetheless. They restored some pride and made it two wins on the spin under Wild, already in his second spell in the hot seat.
After the disappointment of Paul Scholes’ reign and the stuttering form which cost them a serious chance of a top seven spot, this was just the tonic to whet appetites for next season.
20-year-old Lang, on loan from Wigan Athletic, certainly caught the eye and drew a huge amount of praise from the home support.
Give him a statue, name on the north stand wall, freedom of envy, he deserves anything he wants 💙
