‘He’s been woeful.’ – Scunthorpe United fans react to Stuart McCall dismissal

Scunthorpe United have sacked manager Stuart McCall after just seven months in charge.

McCall took the reins in August after the dismissal of Nick Daws four games into the current campaign.

A run of five victories in six matches won McCall the League One Manager of the Month award for January and had the Iron in mid-table as they went into February, but just two wins since have seen them drop to eighteenth in the table within two points of the League One relegation places.

The fifty-four-year-old Scot’s final game in charge was a disappointing 3-1 defeat at fellow strugglers Rochdale on Saturday.

Scunthorpe said in a short statement on their website that first-team coach Andy Dawson will be in caretaker charge at Glanford Park for the rest of the season.

It was also noticeable that the brief statement lacked any thanks for McCall’s efforts and failed to wish him all the best for the future, comments that are the usual staple of such announcements.

Scunthorpe are one of thirteen teams involved in a fierce relegation battle in League One with four set to lose out and drop into League Two.

Fans of the Iron soon took to Twitter to react to the news, with most seemingly happy at the decision and citing a lack of tactical knowledge as the main weakness of McCall.

However, some directed their anger at chairman Peter Swann, with many questioning why Graham Alexander was sacked last season with only seven matches remaining after guiding the club into fifth in the table.  Here is a selection of their responses.
