Boss’ son leaves Forest Green for National League loan

Forest Green Rovers have loaned midfielder Charlie Cooper to Boreham Wood on loan until the end of the season as reported by the Non League Paper.

The 21-year-old is the son of manager Mark Cooper, whose side are currently on a five game losing streak and who have fallen out of the top seven in League Two.

Cooper has already spent a portion of the season out on loan, joining rivals Newport County where he made 15 appearances before returning at the end of December.

A loan move had been planned for January, but injury scuppered his chances of heading out to a Football League club. He’s now back to full fitness, but there’s little opportunity for him in the current Forest Green side.

That’s resulted in the switch to Boreham Wood, whom he joins in the midstĀ  of a relegation battle. They’re eight points clear of safety, but face struggling Dover this week, a game which Cooper is likely to feature.

Our View

Cooper has never been one likely to break through on a consistent basis at Forest Green, despite being the son of the manager. His Newport spell was average, they weren’t fussed about taking him back.

The National league is perhaps the right level for him to develop, away from his Dad and the pressure of Forest Green’s dwindling promotion aspirations.
