AFC Wimbledon came out of a vital relegation battle with Rochdale last night on the right side of a remarkable 4-3 score line.
The Wombles fell behind in the second minute, equalised only to immediately go behind again before surging into a 3-2 lead. When Ian Henderson bagged an 81st minute leveller for the home side, it seemed to have ensured the game’s spoils were split equally.
Instead, Joe Pigott completed his hat trick from the penalty spot five minutes into stoppage time.
It was a hammer blow for Dale, fighting the drop themselves, but it gave the Dons hope of a remarkable reprieve. They’re now just five points adrift of safety, having looked doomed at one point.
They host London rivals Charlton this weekend, before being given a chance to gain ground on another relegation haunted side, Shrewsbury. It’s going to be a big ask to stay up, but these Dons fans on social media certainly think they can do it.
