Steve Evans is never far from the headlines.
After it emerged last week that Evans was once again in trouble with the FA, Peterborough United issued a statement on Saturday evening announcing that Evans and his assistant Paul Raynor, had been released from their contracts.
The news came after Posh drew 0-0 at home to Charlton Athletic.
Evans was appointed in controversial circumstances last season when he quit Mansfield town in mid-season to take over the reins at London Road. He succeeded Grant McCann when Posh sat eighth in the table eventually finishing ninth.
Evans made an excellent start to this campaign with five straight league wins after totally rebuilding the squad in the summer. However, this proved to be a false dawn with results not carrying on in the same vein. Posh have won just twice in the league since the start of December and are 11 points off leaders Luton Town and five behind fifth-placed Sunderland, who have two games in hand.
Peterborough fans took to social media to react to Evans departure and that of the rumour since confirmed by the club, that they were set to appoint Darren Ferguson for the third time. The majority appeared to be glad to see the back of the controversial Scotsman. However, the reaction to the prospect of Ferguson taking over was mixed.
I wish them both well, but I have to say I am relieved! The ugly long ball football was just horrible to watch and although 6th we are punching well below our spending and talent. UTP!

Evans came in all guns blazing and brought in a whole new squad. I don’t like sackings for the sake of it, but after a good start, in a few short months he’d totally lost his rag, the dressing room, the fans and ultimately the support of the board. Good luck Fergie! #pufc #utp

Was only a matter of time. After continued solid investment from the chairman, results haven’t been forthcoming even though Posh sit in 6th, they should be doing much better. Also, their conduct has been far from what you’d expect, worst I’ve seen from a Posh management

No surprise. Tactically clueless. All hot air and bluster. Should have gone 3 weeks ago. Onwards and upwards

This is so sad. We’ll miss his calm manner and witty banter with the 4th officials on the touch line, and his dashing match day outfit selections.

About time to be honest no idea how to play football and the fans never took to him but what next as we are not good enough to get in the play offs

Promotion and two seasons in championship. I’d take that today.
Wouldn’t you ?

Absolutely ridiculous decision, I hope this doesn’t mean Fergie is coming back. #pufc
