“The ugly long ball football was just horrible to watch.” Posh fans react to Steve Evans leaving the club.

Steve Evans is never far from the headlines.

After it emerged last week that Evans was once again in trouble with the FA, Peterborough United issued a statement on Saturday evening announcing that Evans and his assistant Paul Raynor, had been released from their contracts.

The news came after Posh drew 0-0 at home to Charlton Athletic.

Evans was appointed in controversial circumstances last season when he quit Mansfield town in mid-season to take over the reins at London Road. He succeeded Grant McCann when Posh sat eighth in the table eventually finishing ninth.

Evans made an excellent start to this campaign with five straight league wins after totally rebuilding the squad in the summer. However, this proved to be a false dawn with results not carrying on in the same vein. Posh have won just twice in the league since the start of December and are 11 points off leaders Luton Town and five behind fifth-placed Sunderland, who have two games in hand.

Peterborough fans took to social media to react to Evans departure and that of the rumour since confirmed by the club, that they were set to appoint Darren Ferguson for the third time. The majority appeared to be glad to see the back of the controversial Scotsman. However, the reaction to the prospect of Ferguson taking over was mixed.
