Ainsworth honoured to be entrusted with top PL team’s talent

Wycombe Wanderers boss Gareth Ainsworth has spoken of his delight at being entrusted with Manchester City youngster Luke Bolton, after he made his Chairboys debut at the weekend.

His side are up to ninth in the League One table on the back of three successive victories, the most recent of which came against Plymouth Argyle this weekend. They won 1-0 thanks to a Yann Songo’o own goal after 24 minutes, with Bolton coming on in the second half.

The 9-year-old has previously represented Man City Under 21s in the EFL Trophy, playing twice and scoring once. Following their elimination he’s joined Wycombe, looking for first team action.

“I am so honoured to be able to bring a player from Man City to Wycombe,” Ainsworth told the Bucks Free Press. “It shows the culture and the way we do things here is the right way. I am privileged to be in the same job as Premier League managers.

“For them to trust us with their players is a real honour and Luke has been part of a winning Wycombe side and it is great for him and you will see him a lot more for us and City as he is a special talent.”

Ainsworth’s side face Blackpool next, knowing a win would lift them even closer to the play-off spots.

Our View

Wycombe’s rise has been remarkable, they’re on one of the smaller budgets in League One, but they work phenomenally hard as a team and rely on grit and determination as much as flair and guile.

They must be doing something right though, otherwise Manchester City wouldn’t be entrusting young players to Ainsworth and his team.
