Tranmere Rovers have announced that manager Mickey Mellon has signed a new contract with the club until the summer of 2021.
Mellon took over the managerial reins at Prenton Park in 2016 and has since made real progress, securing promotion back to the EFL in his second season in a dramatic Play-off Final win at Wembley. The Super White Army have since adapted well to life in League Two and are currently on the fringes of the play-off positions in tenth place.
Mellon has enjoyed success at his previous clubs, having managed Fleetwood Town into the football league and steering Shrewsbury Town into League One.
As a player, he made one hundred and seventy-three appearances in two separate spells for the Birkenhead club and supporters were delighted that Chairman Mark Palios is looking to the long term and providing much-needed stability, something that had been severely lacking during Tranmere’s plummet down the leagues.
Here is a selection of supporter reaction to the news on social media.
At last we've got a manager and chairman who "get" the club. There'll be downs as well as ups but we're in good hands.
