Southend United Under 18 player Charlie Kelman has had a dramatic few days, scoring a wonder goal in their 3-2 defeat against Plymouth before signing his first professional deal.
The 18-year-old scored 61 times for the Under 16 side last season and has already bagged 18 in 21 for the Under 18 side this time out, but one goal he’s scored must surely beat all of the others.
He unleashed a fearsome rocket from just inside his own half in the dying embers of the defeat on Saturday, comfortably one of the best goals you’ll see all season. It was placed to perfection and had enough power to beat the keeper who had managed to get back.
There are reports this morning that West Ham United are monitoring the younger, with scouts allegedly in the stands watching as his goal went in.
If that is the case, he could eclipse Dru Yearwood as the most valuable young talent in the Southend squad. Whatever they’re putting in the water at Roots Hall is clearly working, with two precious talents emerging at the same time.
Plenty of Shrimpers fans were taking to social media this week to congratulate the youngster on his achievement, as well as his new deal.
