Villa youngster in demand

Four clubs have made enquiries about taking twenty-year-old Aston Villa attacking midfielder Callum O’Hare on loan until the end of the season.

According to Football Insider, big spending Mansfield Town along with Burton Albion, Bristol Rovers, and Exeter City have all expressed an interest in signing the youngster.

After coming through the ranks at Villa Park, O’Hare made his first-team debut in last seasons Carabao Cup against Colchester United. He has made a total of nine appearances for the Villians, the last of which came in the recent FA Cup defeat to Swansea.

Dean Smith has recently made no secret of his desire to see his young players go out on loan. Speaking to Birmingham Live, he said “These under-23s need to go and play men’s football. They come back better players and better people. They go out and see the real world playing alongside some seasoned professionals who rely on winning games for bonuses.”

Which option will be best for the player’s development, whose chances of first-team football currently seem limited, is being considerd by Villa.

Our View

Dean Smith’s attitude towards getting his young players out on loan should be congratulated. Young talent needs to play to improve, and O’Hare will surely benefit from a spell in the lower leagues. However, Villa must be careful with his choice of club. If they sanction a move to a club with a large squad his game time might still be restricted, and the loan will be of little benefit to the player or Villa.
