Big spending Mansfield Town have broken the bank once more with an impressive double swoop.
The Stags, who have suffered back to back defeats in the League Two promotion race, have announced the loan signings of Jorge Grant from Nottingham Forest and Nicky Ajose from Charlton Athletic.
The capture of Grant is bound to cause fans of their rivals Notts County to fume, he was excellent for them in a loan spell last season. He struggled to impose himself on the Luton Town squad this season and is once again dropping into League Two for his football.
He joins Forest team mate Tyler Walker at Field Mill, thought to be on around £5,000 per week.
Walker will now likely partner the experience Ajose up front who joins from Charlton Athletic. He’s not been in the first team picture at the Valley, playing nine times in League One, scoring once.
The former Manchester United youngster will join Grant and another new signing, Nottingham Forest keeper Jordan Smith for Mansfield’s game tomorrow evening with Crawley.
Our View
These are two very good signings for the Stags.
Ajose should score goals at this level, but Grant is a real livewire with the ability to change games. This could well be a precursor to the sale of CJ Hamilton, but if not it has to be argued they’ve assembled the best squad in all of League Two.
Anything less than promotion would surely signal failure.
