Bury FC have fuelled rumours of a takeover this afternoon by responding to social media discussion that the club are about to be sold.
There’s been talk of an impending financial crisis as a result of relegation for some time, with key members of staff such as Matt Hanson leaving the club, as well as stalling on new deal for Danny Major.
It’s been thought that in recent weeks the club have been showing prospective buyers around the ground, with a sportswear firm high on the list of possible candidates to buy the club.
Where’s there’s rumour there’s often embellishment and half-truths, but the club have put out an official announcement stating there will be an announcement very soon, sparking belief it could be a full takeover.
Bury have been in great form of late, becoming the highest scorers in League Two and moving into play off contention. The threat of financial troubles was never seemingly far away, although it is now believed the chairman has sold up and perhaps even said his goodbyes.
Our Bury FC insider is seemingly adamant that the club are being sold and that a sportswear company are the buyers. Whilst there’s no figures nor solid evidence to back this up, there’s certainly something foot at Gigg Lane.
After a promising start to their promotion campaign the fans are sure to be thrilled at the thought of financial input which may allow them to bounce back quickly.
Then again, popular sportswear brands are not always the route to success. Just ask Rangers or Newcastle.
