Crawley Town So Far: “First time in a few seasons we are not consistently looking over our shoulders”

First up in our look at the season so far is Crawley Town fan Dan Maguire, @EvilMing77 on Twitter. He’s talking play offs, beating Newport and Glen Morris.

How has the season gone for you so far?

This season has been an interesting one so far! In the summer the squad was transitioned with a number of new players incoming all with League One experience. We then lost manager Harry Kewell at the end of August to Notts County which has actually invigorated the playing style and made us more attacking. Under new manager Gabrielle Cioffi we are playing some good football but we can be vulnerable to the break something both Colchester and Tranmere did to us really well

Who has been your key player and why?

Without doubt our GK Glen Morris without him we would have lost so many games and could be struggling lower down the league. Also I have to mention Ollie Palmer who has been fantastic up front

Which player has disappointed you the most this season and why?

Dominic Poleon who was bought in from Bradford in the summer. So far he has looked disinterested and not engaged in the game which is not good considering he is one of our highest paid players.

Which game have you enjoyed the most to date and why?

For me it was the win against Newport County in October where we destroyed them in a 4-1 victory. Everyone in the team played well and the stadium was buzzing with excitement as we did not get many days like that last season. Beating Lincoln away was also very special!

What has been the lowest point of your season so far?

Tranmere away! After showing so much signs of improvement and building consistency we travelled up to the Wirral with high hopes only to find the team play the same attacking formation but sitting deep, which gave momentum to Tranmere who thumped us 5-1. That was a long journey home!

Poleon

How do you think the second half of the season will go for you?

We remain positive sitting five points outside the playoffs. For the first time in a few seasons we are not consistently looking over our shoulders with the fear of relegation and with the current squad we have I feel the playoffs is a realistic target

What will you be hoping to see happen at your club in the transfer window?

We are not a wealthy club so I would expect very little business. However I would like to see us secure Joe Maguire on loan until the end of the season and with Poleon and Grego-Cox not firing we may need a back up for Ollie Palmer up front. Also we are hoping that club captain Jimmy Smith will return early next year which will be an added bonus

Which other League players would you like to see your side sign?

Chucks Aneke is the obvious choice as he is way too good for League Two, however Sammie Szmodics would also be a welcome addition! In the summer I wanted us to re-sign John Akinde however Ollie Palmer has proven his worth. Also two young players have impressed me…Courtney Senior of Colchester and the latest off the Crewe production line James Jones who plays similar to Steven Gerrard both have great potential

Any other comments you’d like to make about your team or the season?

Us Crawley fans have to remain realistic and try to forget the good times we had up in League One. As a club we are well managed and we work with a tight budget so promotion can only remain a dream. Also the jury is still out over manager Gabrielle Cioffi I hope it works for him as his passion in highly infectious and without doubt is the Jurgen Klopp of League Two!
