Scottish Premier League side Hibernian are thought to be interested in Gillingham striker Tom Eaves, according to reports in Edinburgh.
The 6ft 5in striker has been in terrific form for Steve Lovell’s side, bagging 30 goals in 69 matches for the them in all competitions during his tenure.
This season the Liverpool-born hitman has scored 12 goals in 22 appearances, including a brace in a 3-1 win over Burton Albion, another as Bradford were stuffed 4-0 win and a third in the 3-0 win over Fleetwood.
Just this week he scored once and assisted once as his side were able to overcome a plucky National League Hartlepool in their FA Cup replay.
Hibs boss Neil Lennon knows the striker well, having worked with him Bolton, where he featured just five times for the Trotters in a six-year spell. He spent much of his time out on loan, appearing for Bury, Bristol Rovers, Shrewsbury, Rotherham and Yeovil. He later joined the Glovers permanently before his Priestfield switch.
Eaves is out of contract in the summer and could agree a pre-contract deal as early as January.
Our View
Losing Eaves would be a blow for the Gills, but it seems inevitable. He’s been in great form recently and the Scottish Premier League would be a big draw for him.
There’s going to be interest from England too, there’s bound to be a lowly Championship side who think he’s the answer to their problems. Gillingham might have to simply accept the worst.
