Portsmouth and Charlton are set to do battle for the signature of former Tottenham youngster Giancarlo Gallifuoco, according to HITC.
Gallifuoco is currently plying his trade in Italy’s third tier, having signed for ambitious Rieti in the summer. Sadly, the dream is beginning to turn into a nightmare as they encounter the same financial problems that dog lower levels of Italian football.
They’re 15th in Serie C Group C and may now need to offload some stars, including former Nottingham Forest man Nikolay Todorov and Gallifuoco.
The 24-year-old last appeared for Dover and Torquay, but left for Italy upon the conclusion of his contract at Crabble. He’s been capped at Australia Under 23 level and has made a decent start to life at Rieti, despite their struggles.
He can play in central defence, right-back or central midfield, and has been made club captain for Gli Amarantocelesti (the Amaranth and Skyblue). he’s appeared 11 times for them, attracting attention of Serie A sides, as well as the Championship duo.

He might be catching the eye over there, but he didn’t impress too much at Dover which is surely a concern?
11 games in a struggling Serie C side and he’s suddenly attracting interest from League One’s biggest clubs?
It’ll be interesting to see how this pans out, if indeed it does at all.
