Oldham Athletic are not used to life in the basement division.
They’re traditionally very much a third-tier team, but find themselves down on their luck and facing a battle to stay in touch with the play off spots.
Last night’s victory, courtesy of Jonathan Benteke and a last-minute Callum Lang goal, saw them climb to 12th in the table. It was their first league win in six matches, a run that has seen fan’s belief in the system and manager wane significantly.
Their opponents are second from bottom and for large parts of the match neither side looked like breaking the deadlock. Eventually it was the less famous Benteke brother who did it, but it hasn’t placated fans who feel the club is not heading in the right direction.
Some believe it just papers over the cracks, others think it is just tactics and players to blame.
Remember when reading the tweets below, Oldham won the game.
That result just papers over the cracks for me! #OAFC pic.twitter.com/JZ4CkHHI0g

As much as bunn does deserve criticism, I do want him to succeed, but just please sort the tactics and selection out #oafc

I can’t see him altering this shithousery. A wins a win but last night was eye opening, going to the corner against 10 men cheltenham with 10 left when winning was a disgrace

Think we all do mate but playing 1 up front at home against Cheltenham and the settling for a 1-0 win against 10 men. Luckily Lang scored a wonderful individual goal to change it. When Hamer was counter attacking in the 2nd half, he ran 50 yards then passed it backwards. #oafc

We were poor but found a way to win. The subs worked Missilou was outstanding, Lang ran all night. Gardner much better, defensively didn’t break sweat, the winless run is over. #oafc

Lowest #oafc home league attendance since March 17th 2015 when 2445 fans saw us lose 3-1 to MK Dons. https://t.co/WZBgY59X2Q

I think they were booing moreso at him not taking our defensive midfielder or our defensive striker off instead #oafc https://t.co/SD3i3GdvEc
