Portsmouth defender David Wheeler is set to return for tomorrow’s night match with Burton Albion, handing Kenny Jackett a huge boost.
The 28-year old suffered the problem after coming on as a second-half substitute in the 2-0 defeat to Gillingham in early October.
At first, it was expected that he’d be out for a month or so, but Kenny Jackett has now confirmed that isn’t the case.
The Blues manager said: “Everyone is okay (following Saturday’s win against Fleetwood). The one likely to be added to the squad is Dave Wheeler – he’s okay now.”
One player who will not be available for the league leaders is Aston Villa’ Andre Green. He’s still out with a knee injury and won’t face Nigel Clough’s side.
Wheeler made the bulk of his Football League appearances for Exeter before moving to Loftus Road, but since then he’s struggled to force his way into the first team picture.
Wheeler is a decent defender who hasn’t made it in the Championship, but a decent season with Pompey could give him the boost he needs.
If they’re flying high and he’s a key part of that, it could leave the door open for a permanent return or a move in the summer to someone who will value his ability.
