Fleetwood manager Joey Barton is having to wait to find out if striker Ched Evans is going to be fit for this weekend’s clash with table topping Portsmouth.
The former Sheffield United man is currently being monitored after picking up an injury against Barnsley and as Barton explained to local media, he’s played through the pain barrier already this season.
“It’s just a hangover from the shoulder injury he picked up against Barnsley. He then played through the pain barrier for us at Doncaster. You could see he was really struggling but he gave everything because he is that kind of lad.”
Following the Doncaster game Evans condition hasn’t improved and Barton added that there was still a concern over his availability this weekend.
“He still had a bit of pain in there and had a scan in the early part of last week. There were a couple of little issues in there.”
Fleetwood are eighth in the table, ten points behind Pompey, but just three points outside of the play off spots.
Evans is a big player for Fleetwood, but if he isn’t fit there’s option available for Barton.
Paddy Madden will almost certainly play, but he could be partnered Ashley Hunter or Wes Burns.
