Colchester United will likely be without leading scorer Luke Norris this evening as they face Darren Way’s Yeovil Town.
The 25-year-old’s currently tally is an impressive seven goals in nine games, in all competitions, and six in the league, which makes him the joint second top scorer in League Two behind Tranmere Rovers’ James Norwood.
However, the former Swindon man was struggling with an ankle injury towards the end of Saturday’s game, by which time manager John McGreal had already made all three changes. Norris struggled on, but that could now impact the Yeovil clash.
“Luke’s ankle does not look too good,” confirmed McGreal, after the home loss to Bury. “He carried on, but his ankle doesn’t look too good at the moment, so we will have to wait and see.”
“I think the fans appreciated how we came back strongly in the game, and Luke again got in the right areas, to either get in shots or win us a penalty. We will have to see the extent of the injuries.”
Norris started his career with Brentford and had spells with Gillingham and Swindon. it was for the latter he bagged 13 goals in all competitions last season, causing McGreal to add him to Mikael Mandron and Frank Nouble leading the U’s attack.
Our View
This could be a big blow, Norris is growing into the role of centre forward, adding to his fine form of last season.
Alongside Nouble he’s looked especially sharp, the pair keeping former Sunderland man Mandron on the bench. Colchester may now need to rethink as they look to cement their place amongst the early pace-setters in the division.
