Sunderland and Peterborough meet tomorrow in a huge top of the table clash that could have ramifications for both sides.
Posh currently lead the Black Cats by four points, a win would give them a huge seven point gap. On the other hand, a Sunderland win would push them right into the automatic promotion race at this early stage.
Whilst it might look crucial to the neutral, former Wigan man Max Power doesn’t believe it will be pivotal in Sunderland’s season.
“There are always games in the season that hold more importance than others, at this stage let’s not get carried away,” he told the Sunderland Echo.
“It won’t define our season albeit we do want to keep the winning run going at home. We all know the importance of the game, we will recover and train well and go again Tuesday.”
The Black Cats drew 1-1 this weekend with Coventry City, whilst Steve Evans’ Posh were held 2-2 by Blackpool. The larger than life manager has claimed there will be no change of emphasis just because Posh are the away side tomorrow.
“I’d be a fool to come up with a wacky game plan just because we are playing at Sunderland,” he told Peterborough Today. “We have been terrific away from home all season.”
“We’ve played some great football and scored some stunning goals and we will try to play the same way tomorrow. We will be positive and we will be looking to win.”
Our View
This is a massive match and whether it comes in October or April, it is a six-pointer. Sunderland don’t want the pressure, they’re playing catch up in front of their own fans.
Peterborough have little to lose, anything at the Stadium of Light will be considered a good result. They’ve won two in six in all competitions and would like to arrest that mini-slump in the best possible way.
