New Scunthorpe United boss Stuart McCall has bolstered his squad with the loan signings of striker Ike Ugbo from Chelsea and goalkeeper Jak Alnwick from Rangers.
Alnwick, bother of Bolton keeper Ben, enjoyed his best spell at Port Vale in League One, making 79 appearances in all competitions. That prompted Rangers to fork out an undisclosed fee for his services, but he’s since fallen down the pecking order after the arrival of Allan McGregor.
19-year old Ugbo has already gained experience in League One, making 17 appearances for Milton Keynes Dons, scoring twice. He also made 17 appearances for Barnsley in the Championship, scoring just once.
Ugbo has also represented England at Under-17 and Under-20 level and takes the Number 9 shirt at Glanford Park.
The duo are McCall’s first signings since being appointed on Monday and could feature against Accrington Stanley on Saturday.
The Iron are currently 18th in the League One table.
Our View
These are potentially big deals, both have come from top flight clubs and are looking for regular game time. Ugbo could be a success in league One, he’s got all the attributes and is very physical and alert.
Alnwick has been unlucky at Rangers, but with just 11 outings to his name he had to move to stand a chance of regular football.
