Colchester United defender Noah Chesmain has joined Hitchin Town on a month’s loan.
The 20-year-old former Millwall man will swap League Two for the Evostik Southern Premier League until the 17th of September.
The intention is for the left back to gain some first team football experience after sealing a summer switch from the Den.
He made a single senior Football League appearance prior to moving to the U’s, appearing for the Lions as an 83rd minute substitute against Bury as an 18-year old. He also made a couple of EFL Trophy appearances, against West Brom U23s and Gillingham.
Since then he played in Millwall’s Under 23 side as well as trialling at Lincoln City last summer.
He has featured for non league sides though, firstly with Welling in 2016, before playing three games for Boreham Wood in the National League a year later.
There’s an element of a gamble around Chesmain, he didn’t impress in his Boreham Wood stint and couldn’t earn a deal at Lincoln last season.
If he gets some regular football there’s a chance he could make the grade, but it remains to be seen if he can elevate his performance levels to those expected in League Two.
