The Championship is the second tier of professional football in England and sits only behind the EPL.

What’s the Maximum Squad Size for the EFL Championship?
At the beginning of each season, Championship clubs can register playing squads of up to 25 players. This must include a minimum of eight home-grown stars. You can have an unlimited number of loan players in your overall playing squad too, but a maximum of five can be named in each individual matchday squad.
What’s the Record Points Tally in a Championship Season?
Since the restructuring of the EFL and formation of the Championship, the highest number of points recorded in a single season is 106. This was the tally accumulated by current League One outfit Reading in the 2005/06 season, as they won 31 of their 46 matches, lost just twice and scored an impressive 99 goals. Six teams in total have finished a Championship campaign with more than 100 points.

After each season, the top two Championship teams earn automatic promotion to the Premiership. The sides that finish between third and sixth subsequently compete in a playoff series, the winner of which also makes the transition to EFL Championship to the English Premier League.
How many teams get relegated from the Championship?
As for the clubs that finish in the Championship bottom three after the regular season, they’ll be relegated to League One. Rotherham, Huddersfield Town and Birmingham City were the relegated teams in 2023/24, although the Blues actually top League One at the time of writing.
How many teams get promoted from league 1 to the Championship?
