Stevenage vs Doncaster Rovers: Prediction, Lineups, Betting Tips & Odds (22/11)

Promotion pushing Stevenage host struggling Doncaster Rovers at the Lamex Stadium in Sky Bet League One on Saturday afternoon.

Our Three Predictions for Stevenage vs Doncaster Rovers

  • First Prediction: Stevenage to win – 19/20
  • Second Prediction: Under 1.5 goals to be scored – 1/3
  • Third Prediction: Both teams to score – no – 17/20

First Prediction for Stevenage vs Doncaster Rovers – Stevenage to win – 19/20

Whilst neither side are in great form coming into this game, the home advantage, alongside the fact that Doncaster have failed to win a game of football since early September, implies the hosts may come out on top in this clash. Despite sitting still sixth, Boro haven’t won a game of football in the third tier in over a month. However, it’s not all doom and gloom for Alex Revell’s side, who have won two games recently in the EFL Trophy.

It’s worse for the visitors, who haven’t won a game of League One football since early September, and have gone nine games winless. On top of this, Grant McCann’s side have only won two of eight games on the road this season, whilst Stevenage have the joint third best home record in the division and are yet to lose on home soil.

Although this is going to be a game between two sides potentially low on confidence, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Stevenage pick up a crucial three points.

Second Prediction for Stevenage vs Doncaster Rovers – Under 1.5 goals to be scored – 1/3

One of the reasons Boro have been so good this season is because of their defensive record. Although they’ve played fewer games than everyone else in the division, excluding Barnsley, they have the best defensive record in the third tier by a country mile, conceding just 11 goals in 13 games. On home soil at the Lamex, Revell’s side have conceded just two goals, displaying how defensively good they’ve been.

Whilst Doncaster haven’t got a bad record in front of goal, they have struggled to score goals on the road, scoring five times in eight games, which is a record that certainly is on the lower end of the table regarding goals scored away from home.

The stats suggest that this game will be a low-scoring encounter between two sides who have differing records both in front of goal and defensively.

Third Prediction for Stevenage vs Doncaster Rovers – Both teams to score – no – 17/20

Although the away side doesn’t have the worst record when it comes to scoring goals in the league, breaking down a side as defensively resolute as Stevenage will be a tough task, and with the side so off form in terms of recent results, it’s unlikely that Rovers will be able to break that defence down. On average, the away side score less than one goal per game, with their average sitting at 0.94 goals per match, and with Boro conceding just two goals on home soil, it’s hard to imagine McCann’s side scoring on Saturday. On top of this, Rovers have netted just five times on their travels in eight games.

Full Preview of the Game – Last Results and Head-To-Head

As mentioned above, neither side come into this game on good form. Boro still sit in the play-offs, however, but the visitors have slipped down to 19th place and are only three points away from the dreaded drop zone.

Both sides need to get points on the board for contrasting reasons: Stevenage wanting to continue their promotion push, whilst Rovers need to distance themselves from the bottom four.

Since 2012, these sides have met each other seven times in three different competitions, including the FA Cup, League One and League Two. Both sides have won three games each, whilst the remaining tie ended in a draw. The last time these sides met each other was the season the hosts were promoted out of League Two, Boro taking all three points on the day, thanks to an early strike from Jordan Roberts, a player still at the club to this day.
