Our Three Predictions For Sheffield United vs Watford

  • First Prediction: Sheffield United To Win – 1/1
  • Second Prediction: Both Teams To Score – No – 10/11
  • Third Prediction: Under 2.5 Goals – 4/5

First Prediction For Sheffield United vs Watford – Sheffield United To Win – 1/1

There’s no getting away from the fact that it’s been a dreadful campaign thus far for Sheffield United. Bottom of the table with just a solitary win, they need to kick on or they will find themselves in real danger of being dragged into a relegation dog fight.

The Blades have lost every game at Bramall Lane this season, although their last home outing against Southampton was a much improved showing. The appointment of Chris Wilder in mid-September is still accompanied by optimism and this appears to be the ideal game to bring back some belief that they can surge up the table, especially with the 58-year-old coming up against his former club.

Watford enter this game in decent form but still opted to make (yet another) managerial change during the international break. In came former boss Javi Gracia who now faces the tough task of a visit to Bramall Lane.

Although unbeaten in 3 games, the Hornets away form has been poor. The are yet to win on the road this season, having lost against Charlton Athletic and Millwall. However, they did pick up a point in each of their visits to Swansea City and Portsmouth

Second Prediction For Sheffield United vs Watford – Both Teams To Score – No – 10/11

Sheffield United built a reputation during Chris Wilder’s previous tenure of being hard to break down. This remains true this time around, with 3 of his 4 games in charge thus far being settled by a solitary goal.

The Blades have only seen 2 games see both teams score, although the last of those came when they lost 2-1 to Southampton in their last home outing.

In stark contrast, Watford do rank high in this market. 67% of their fixtures thus far have seen them both score and concede. However, they have failed to score in half their away games.

This looks set to be another cagey affair, especially with the home side desperate to grind out a result.

Third Prediction For Sheffield United vs Watford – Under 2.5 Goals – 4/5

Similar to the previous prediction, Sheffield United also tend to be involved in low scoring games. Only Charlton Athletic have been involved in less fixtures that have seen under 3 goals, with the Blades hitting this marker in 33% of their games thus far.

It’s worth noting that 2 of these came under the stewardship of Ruben Selles, which both ended in heavy defeats. The Spaniard oversaw a 4-1 home loss against Bristol City on the opening day before the 5-0 thumping at Ipswich Town in September, a result which cost him his job.

Watford rank thejoint fourth highest in the Championship in games that have gone over 2.5 goals, although this is mainly down to their home form. Overall, 56% of their fixtures have been high scoring affairs, but this falls dramatically to 25% when they are away from Vicarage Road.

The Hornets lost 1-0 at both Charlton and Millwall, whilst they also drew 1-1 at Swansea City. The 2-2 draw with Portsmouth earlier this month is the only anomaly.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:

After finishing last season with 90 points and losing in the play-off final to Sunderland, Sheffield United were one of the favourites to secure promotion this time around. Owners COH Sports Group took the bold decision to swap manager Chris Wilder for Ruben Selles, in a move that backfired spectacularly.

The former Reading boss lasted just six games before he was shown the exit door, with each outing ending in defeat. A 5-0 reverse at Ipswich Town proved to be the final straw, leading to a dramatic return for Wilder.

Inheriting a squad low on confidence, it’s no surprise that the 58-year-old has endured a slow start. His return fixture generated a narrow 1-0 loss against Charlton Athletic but he then oversaw a first win of the campaign by beating Oxford United by the same scoreline.

Waford have been largely inconsistent and have recorded 3 wins, 3 draws and 3 defeats in their 9 games so far this season. They do enter this game on the back a 3 game unbeaten run, although that was achieved by previous head coach Paulo Pezzolano

Despite that, the ex-Valladollid boss never really clicked with the supporters. This led to the return of Javi Gracia last week.

The Hornets last outing saw them beat Oxford United 2-1 just before the international break, which came of the back of a 2-2 draw against Portsmouth at Fratton Park.

They last tasted defeat at Millwall in mid September when the Lions emerged with a narrow 1-0 victory.

Sheffield United have been the dominant force in this fixture in recent times, winning the last 3 meetings. This included a double last season where they won 1-0 at Bramall Lane and 2-1 at Vicarage Road. Watford’s last victory over the Blades came in 2022 but they have not won in Yorkshire since 2010.

Overall, United have beaten Watford 22 times, with the Hornets winning on 14 occasions and 13 ending in a draw.
