Our Three Predictions For Newport County vs Swindon Town:

  • First Prediction For Newport County vs Swindon Town: Match Result – Swindon Town – 3/4
  • Second Prediction For Newport County vs Swindon Town: Both Teams To Score – Yes – 7/10
  • Third Prediction For Newport County vs Swindon Town: Aaron Drinan To Score Anytime – 15/11

First Prediction For Newport County vs Swindon Town: Match Result – Swindon Town – 3/4

League Two is a division which always throws up surprise results, but given the formbook heading into this game, the chances of Newport County springing a shock victory appear to be very slim. With five wins in their last six, Swindon Town are among the most in-form outfits in the fourth tier, surging up to second place in the division, while having the second-best record on the road. Meanwhile, Newport are on the longest winless run in the league, standing at eight games. Seven of those have been defeats, since taking four points from their opening two games, and the Exiles have the worst record on their own patch in the league this season. Not only should an away win be a formality, but the Robins are expected to return from South Wales with an emphatic three points.

Second Prediction For Newport County vs Swindon Town: Both Teams To Score – Yes – 7/10

Despite the Exiles’ struggles this term, they have at least been somewhat promising infront of goal with ten in as many games. But, shipping double that amount is the biggest factor in their current league position. Goals should be guaranteed in this fixture, given Swindon’s poor defensive record in relation to their league position, conceding thirteen times already in the league, which ranks them mid-table in that metric. But, no team have scored more times than Ian Holloway’s side, with his former outfit, Grimsby Town, also netting on 21 occasions this term. Despite facing plenty of promotion contenders in recent weeks, Newport have, at least, managed to score in every game in September, so expect the same outcome this weekend.

Third Prediction For Newport County vs Swindon Town: Aaron Drinan To Score Anytime – 15/11

No player in English professional football has scored more times than Swindon’s leading marksman, Aaron Drinan. With eight goals in ten appearances, he is two clear of closest rival, Notts County forward Matthew Dennis, in the early race for the League Two golden boot. He has scored in each of his last six fourth-tier outings, with eight goal contributions in that time. Despite dropping into a deeper role last time out against Bromley, Drinan still managed to bag in the opening period to continue his hot streak infront of goal. Given Newport have conceded seven goals in their past two league games, the Robins forward should be extremely confident of continuing his remarkable goalscoring run.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:

This looks like the season Newport County may lose their Football League status. Of the two teams below the Exiles in the table, Cheltenham Town have just appointed legendary former manager Steve Cotterill, while Michael Appleton’s future at Shrewsbury Town remains very uncertain, given his dire record since taking over in League One last term. It’s fair to say the gamble of appointing David Hughes has yet to pay off, though Newport have been on a downward trajectory ever since reaching the Play-Off Final in 2021. Twice making the showpiece event in three years, the side from South Wales have become a staple in the fourth tier, now in their thirteenth campaign at this level since promotion from the National League. But since losing to Morecambe at Wembley four years ago, Newport have finished lower than the previous season’s finish every year since. If they end this campaign a place lower this time around, the Exiles will be playing outside the EFL for the first time since 2013.

Focusing back on the current campaign, Newport are in desperate need of a result this weekend following an eight-game winless streak. That run is extended to ten if you include their two cup defeats, with five successive losses following their sole victory back in August against Crawley Town. While their defeats had previously been narrow, losing by a single goal against Grimsby Town, Salford City and Milton Keynes Dons, the margin has grown in recent weeks, with heavier losses against Chesterfield and Gillingham. Any slight optimism from their late fightback against Bristol Rovers, which was ultimately unsuccessful, and the draw rescued at Tranmere Rovers, has been extinguished by these two recent losses. This fixture represents the end of the difficult run on paper, though Cardiff City are next up in the EFL Trophy. But returning to League Two next Saturday, games against Accrington Stanley, basement outfit Cheltenham Town and Harrogate Town represent excellent opportunities to collect three points.

Swindon Town are riding the high of a superb start to the campaign, which is a continuation of their excellent end to last season. Four wins in succession at the start of April propelled them into the Play-Off conversation, netting fifteen times. That run included a sensational nine-goal thriller against current League One leaders Bradford City, and two four-nil wins on the road at Fleetwood Town and Grimsby Town. But two points from the final nine on offer killed those hopes, though that has proved to be a blessing in disguise given their storming beginning to the 25/26 season. An opening day defeat against Walsall was hardly the start they were after, but that was quickly rectified with narrow wins against Cambridge United and Oldham Athletic. Despite losing to Barnet, further wins over Shrewsbury Town and Crewe Alexandra cemented their position as one of the favourites for promotion, particularly given the ease with which they dispatched then leaders Crewe Alexandra at the end of August.

To start September, the Robins quickly reeled off a further three wins on the bounce, defeating local rivals Reading in the EFL Trophy, before three points hauls against Barrow and Harrogate Town to extend the winning streak to five. But against Salford City, another promotion chaser, the run came to an abrupt end in devastating style. The Ammies led two-nil after a quarter of an hour, but, after Swindon fought so well to level the scores with seven minutes remaining, Kallum Cesay netted an injury-time winner for the home side. Normal service was resumed last weekend, as Ollie Palmer and Drinan were the goalscorers inside the first 31 minutes for a comfortable win against Bromley. And Holloway should be hopeful of a similar outcome this weekend, particularly given the Robins made the short journey along the M4 earlier this year and returned with three points, adding to their four-nil thrashing earlier in the season. This game fell on 4th October two years ago, with Swindon also winning that game, one of 46 such results in this fixture, with Newport winning 31 meetings.
