High-flying Lincoln City host Exeter City at the LNER Stadium on Saturday as they hope to keep up the pace with the League One leaders.
Our Three Predictions For Lincoln City vs Exeter City
- First Prediction: Lincoln City To Win – 8/11
- Second Prediction: Both Teams To Score – No – 4/5
- Third Prediction: Under 2.5 Goals – 7/10
First Prediction For Lincoln City vs Exeter City – Lincoln City To Win – 8/11
Lincoln City are in phenomenal form at the moment and are currently eight games unbeaten in League One. That is the longest streak without defeat in the EFL and they sit third in the table as a result. After recording three successive draws between August 23rd and September 6th, the Imps have now won three on the bounce, with the last two particularly impressive. Michael Skubala’s team completely outclassed Luton Town at the LNER Stadium to pick up a 3-1 win two weeks ago. They followed that with another dominant performance last weekend when they brushed aside Peterborough United 3-0 at the Weston Homes Stadium. With next weekend’s clash against table toppers Bradford City postponed due to international call-ups, Lincoln will be keen to pick up another three points ahead of a fortnight’s break.
Exeter’s recent performances perhaps haven’t garnered the rewards they deserve, but they have lost four league games on the bounce. This is a run that stretches back to August, where they also picked up a 3-0 win over Peterborough. The Grecians have been poor on the road, losing four of their five games on the road. Their only success came at Wycombe Wanderers in August, where they left Adams Park with a 1-0 victory. On paper, this should be a comfortable afternoon for the home side.
Second Prediction For Lincoln City vs Exeter City – Both Teams To Score – No – 4/5
Lincoln have shown their attacking threat in front of goal this season and have only failed to score once in all competitions. This came at AFC Wimbledon on the second fixture of the season, a game which remains their only defeat. Although they lost 2-0 on the afternoon, it is worth considering they were forced to play the majority of the game with 10 men following defender Adam Jackson’s first half dismissal. The Imps have found the back of the net 17 times in League One, a number only bettered by league leaders Bradford City. Furthermore, they’ve kept clean sheets in two of their last three league games, whilst they also beat Manchester United under-21s 3-0 in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday night.
Exeter’s league position goes hand-in-hand with their troubles in front of goal. They’ve failed to score in three of their last four, whilst achieving the same in three of their five away games to date. This extends to cup competitions too, where the Grecians lost 2-0 to struggling League Two outfit Cheltenham Town in August.
Third Prediction For Lincoln City vs Exeter City – Under 2.5 Goals – 7/10
This is a prediction made more for the away side than the hosts. Lincoln have scored three times in their last two league fixtures, whilst five of their last six outings in all competitions have produced at least three goals. However, one minor criticism of the Imps this season is they do struggle to break down teams who like to play defensively, an attribute which can be tied to Exeter. Michael Skubala’s team do often find a way through, but 1-0 wins over Northampton Town and Burton Albion are evidence that they need a plan B against some teams struggling towards the bottom of the table.
Gary Caldwell builds his team around the defence and it is rare that they are on the receiving end of a hammering. Three of their last four defeats have all come by one goal, whilst the same number have also fallen under this market. The two teams are level pegging when it comes to low scoring affairs this season, with four of their 10 league games producing under three goals. Only Bolton Wanderers and Northampton have seen less.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:
Lincoln have enjoyed an excellent start to the season, renewing optimism that this could be the year they make a genuine attempt to get into the Championship. They started the season with a comfortable 2-0 win over Reading before tasting their one and only defeat of the campaign with a 2-0 loss at AFC Wimbledon. Back-to-back wins over Plymouth Argyle (4-2) and Northampton Town (1-0) followed, but a mini blip of sorts followed. A trio of draws against Bolton Wanderers (1-1), Mansfield Town (1-1) and Wigan Athletic (2-2) saw them slip down the table a little, but Michael Skubala’s team have recovered well in recent weeks. A hard fought 1-0 victory over Burton Albion saw them return to winning ways in mid-September. The last fortnight has been particularly impressive though. They first brushed Luton Town aside with ease with a 3-1 triumph at the LNER Stadium before pushing Premier League giants Chelsea all the way in the Carabao Cup third round. The East Midlands-based outfit outclassed Peterborough United last weekend with a 3-0 win at the Weston Homes Stadium. They enter this game in third, two points behind leaders Bradford City.
Exeter are in the midst of some bad form, which has plagued their season so far. Gary Caldwell’s team began with a 1-0 defeat at newly promoted Doncaster Rovers but picked up an excellent 4-1 win over Blackpool the following week. The manner of that victory would have left them disappointed to then lose 2-1 to Mansfield Town at St James’ Park, but their first and only away win of the campaign followed when they emerged with a narrow 1-0 victory at Wycombe Wanderers. The Grecians inconsistencies continued though with a 2-0 loss at Northampton Town, although they then eased past Peterborough United (3-0). They enter this game on the back of four successive league defeats though, having picked up zero points against Rotherham United (1-0), Port Vale (2-0), Stevenage (2-1) and Huddersfield Town (1-0).
It’s fair to say that this hasn’t been the most entertaining fixture in recent years. Both of last season’s encounters finished 0-0. Lincoln did pick up a 1-0 win in February 2024 but are unbeaten in their last four meetings against the Grecians. Exeter’s last victory came in March 2023, although they haven’t won at the LNER Stadium since leaving Lincolnshire with a 1-0 victory in 2009. Overall, the Imps have the stronger record in this fixture, winning 28 of the previous 70 clashes. Exeter have 21 wins whilst 21 games have ended in a draw.
