A midweek round of Championship fixtures, and Derby County will hope that playing under the lights will be something that kicks them on against an in form Charlton Athletic side that has surprised many with their good start.
Our Three Predictions For Derby County v Charlton Athletic
Prediction 1 – Match To End In A Draw – 21/10
Prediction 2 – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 21/10
Prediction 3 – Under 2.5 Goals Scored – 1/2
First Prediction For Derby County v Charlton Athletic – Match To End In A Draw – 21/10
Two teams with contrasting fortunes from the first couple of months play, and the statistics show there isn’t a huge amount between the two. However, Derby County are in an early dogfight for points as they languish in 21st place. Their visitors have had a great start since their promotion vis the playoffs, and are very much the surprise package so far. Derby have yet to win at home, and only have one point from their three games at Pride Park. They may not be able to win this game against an inform Athletic side, but the visitors are not on great form on their travels with an equal split of one win, draw, and loss. County picked up a good point away at Wrexham at the weekend, and before that dropped to consecutive 1-0 losses, so they are keeping games close. Charlton will look to build on their fine 3-0 win over Blackburn Rovers, but may see this as a good point against a side battling for any kind of consistent form.
Second Prediction For Derby County v Charlton Athletic – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 21/10
In the last four games between the two there has only been seven goals scored, and even though all those games didn’t offer up a draw, they were close throughout. Derby are actually averaging over a goal per game at home, with four in three, so getting the same return could well mean that they could get a positive result here. Charlton are on the opposite side of the stat, with just two goals scored in their three away games. Both do have relatively tight defences though, and this should suggest a low scoring game is on the cards once again, but both should be able to find the opposing net.
Third Prediction For Derby County v Charlton Athletic – Under 2.5 Goals Scored – 1/2
As suggested then a close encounter is very much in the air, and one that both will go away fairly happy from should the honours be even. With both finding it hard to deliver anything way over an average a goal a game, Charlton seven in seven, and Derby nine in the same amount. It is the tight defences that are keeping them in most games, with Charlton only conceding five so far, whereas Derby have conceded 13. Being more open would suggest they are more willing to attack, and leave some gaps, but they will be mindful not to leave the door open too much here as their visitors are coming off the back of a three goal haul last time out.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head To Head
It may be somewhat of a surprise to see that a team struggling so much for points and goals, does in fact have one of the leading scorers in the Championship. Carlton Morris has bagged four so far in a campaign that has really failed to get started, so should they hit form you can only imagine what his number will be. John Eustace will be thankful that Morris is on form, as the rest of his side has really failed to give him any real support in those numbers, with five other players scoring just once. The defence is playing well, but do concede too often for a team that is playing beneath their potential. Matt Clarke has bene playing well, but it is 36 year old Craig Forsyth that is doing his best to keep the back line together.
Nathan Jones has been around the block a few times now, and he will be hoping his experience at this level will pay off with a Charlton Athletic side that is, for now, punching above their expected position. Two wins without conceding has seen his side rise up to seventh spot, and with confidence high they may well win a third game on the spin and really start to open some eyes. It will be difficult to keep this form going. Sonny Carey looks to be a bright spark, the 24 year old has bagged two goals and James Bree has a goal and two assists in just thee games so far, so the attack does have potential for more as they get used to this level again. Lloyd Jones is ever present at the back, as are Conor Coventry and Greg Docherty in midfield. It is keeping players fit that will determine how far this team can go, but another good result here will keep smiles on faces around The Valley.
