First Prediction For Stockport County vs Reading: Match Result – Stockport County – 29/50
Last season’s beaten Play-Off Semi-Finalists have had a mixed start to the season, but appear to be finding their feet again following a heavy defeat at Plymouth Argyle. Dave Challinor’s outfit were expected to challenge for promotion once more this term, but have already been frustrated in a few games this season. Similarly good things were expected from Reading after their good business over the summer, but they have had an ever tougher start to the 25/26 campaign. Sitting above the relegation zone by only a point, the Royals had to wait until the end of August for their first three-point haul of the season. But, that has sparked a run of two wins in three, and they can finally start looking upwards. Nevertheless, Stockport are favourites to win this encounter on Saturday afternoon.
Second Prediction For Stockport County vs Reading: Over 2.5 Goals – 17/20
In the first two games of September, these two had some cracking encounters. The EFL Trophy brought about two fantastic games, as the Hatters were victorious in an eight-goal thriller against Wolverhampton Wanderers U21’s, scoring five. On the same night, Reading lost the first instalment of their local derby at the County Ground for 23 years, as Swindon Town won an equally entertaining game by the odd goal in five. The Royals then lost by the same scoreline in South Yorkshire to Barnsley after an eleven-day break from action, while Stockport were in action over the international break. But they were well beaten in the South West by Plymouth Argyle four-two. The goalscoring has calmed down a little in the past fortnight, but expect a few more goals this weekend when the two clash at Edgeley Park.
Third Prediction For Stockport County vs Reading: Both Teams To Score – Yes – 17/20
Infront of goal, only Bradford City and Huddersfield Town have scored more times in League One this season than Stockport’s fourteen in nine games. Reading are towards the lower end of the third tier in that department with nine, though they have played a game fewer than the Hatters. It is at the other end of the pitch, though, where both these clubs are similar, sitting in the bottom third for goals conceded, with 25 shipped between the two sides. It seems pretty certain that both will concede at least once in two days’ time, even though Stockport kept a clean sheet last Saturday.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:
After beginning the season in fine form, Stockport have got over a slight blip in form as they look to win promotion to the Championship. Beaten by Leyton Orient over two legs last season in the Play-Offs, the O’s were the first team to take a point off the Hatters in the third tier after three successive wins beforehand. Bolton Wanderers were another side tipped to fight for promotion this term, but Dave Challinor’s side continued their good form against the Trotters with goals at the end of both halves to seal a two-nil victory. And they quickly made it two wins from two at another side beaten in the end-of-season competition, Wycombe Wanderers, thanks to another goal from Kyle Wootton. He opened the scoring the following midweek after the Carabao Cup 1st Round draw had pitted them against Cheshire rivals Crewe Alexandra. Stockport eased to victory in the derby, and appeared to be doing the same in East London, set to banish those bad memories from May.
But Orient struck twice, including in stoppage time, to take a point. Against Bradford City, the unbeaten run came to an end with Antoni Sarcevic returning to haunt his former employers at Edgeley Park. And they were heading towards more disappointment against Burton Albion, when the Brewers took the lead and County were reduced to ten men. But an Oliver Norwood-inspired comeback saw them take all three points. Two games in a matter of days against Wigan Athletic saw the Latics knock Stockport out of the League Cup, before taking a point in the league. After the above-mentioned thrilling encounters with Wolves U21’s and Plymouth Argyle, which produced fourteen goals, the Hatters were denied a win at the death by leaders Cardiff City. But two of their best players thus far, Wootton and Norwood, combined at Rotherham United to move County up to eighth in the table with a one-goal win.
Reading, meanwhile, looked like they’ve turned a slight corner in League One with their recent results. Despite being knocked out of the Carabao Cup at the third round stage on Tuesday evening by Wrexham, the Royals have recorded six points from their last nine on offer to move out of the League One relegation zone. A tough opening day at Lincoln City proved just that, with the Imps coming away with a two-goal win. Huddersfield Town inflicted another defeat on Noel Hunt’s outfit by the same scoreline seven days later, but there was joy in the Carabao Cup. Against Championship Portsmouth, two first-half goals in four minutes got the Berkshire outfit up and running. While they set up that tie with the Red Dragons by beating AFC Wimbledon in a comeback victory, their league encounter produced the opposite outcome.
Lewis Wing grabbed a late consolation against the Dons, but it was nothing more than that as they lost for the third time in succession in the third tier. And while they were on their way to another League One loss at Bolton Wanderers, Andre Garcia grabbed the all-important equaliser six minutes from time to nick a point. That became two only a few days later, though the Royals were on the wrong end of a late goal after Mamadi Camará and Lewis Wing had given them the lead at Wycombe Wanderers. Three points finally arrived against Port Vale on the penultimate day of August, as there was another first for Paddy Lane, who opened his Royals account. A topsy-turvy game at Barnsley saw Reading defeated by the Tykes, but they won again at the Select Car Leasing Stadium five days ago against Leyton Orient.
Stockport won both league meetings last season by a convincing margin, with an aggregate result of 12-3 from the past three encounters. Them two games last term were the first time these two clubs have clashed this century, though they won’t live long in the Royals’ memory. Louie Barry scored a brace last October, while the Hatters’ victory in Berkshire was the first of five wins on the spin against a fellow Play-Off contender.
