Our Three Predictions For Tottenham Hotspur vs Doncaster Rovers
- First Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur To Win -1 Handicap – 11/25

- Third Prediction: Brennan Johnson To Score Anytime – 21/20
First Prediction For Tottenham Hotspur vs Doncaster Rovers – Tottenham Hotspur To Win -1 Handicap – 11/25
Although Tottenham were triumphant in the Europa League, their 17th placed finish in last season cost manager Ange Postecoglou his job. They drafted in Thomas Frank from Brentford, who has begun life in North London well. Spurs currently sit third in the table whilst they also won on their return to the Champions League with a 1-0 victory over Villarreal last week. A 2-2 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion at the weekend saw them drop points for only the second time this season, but four wins from six in all competitions is an excellent return. Three of those wins have been won by at least two goals, haven beaten Burnley and West Ham United 3-0 and Manchester City 2-0.
Doncaster have also enjoyed a good start to the season having returned to League One after a three year absence. Grant McCann’s team currently sit seventh in the third tier, although they have now lost back-to-back games having lost 3-0 to Wigan Athletic and 2-1 to AFC Wimbledon. As a result, Rovers could be tempted to rotate slightly with one eye on Saturday’s trip to Luton Town, but either way, they will find life tough at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Second Prediction For Tottenham Hotspur vs Doncaster Rovers – Both Teams To Score – No – 13/20
Tottenham have conceded in just two games this season, shipping three goals in the process. Two of those came in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion, with the other coming in a 1-0 defeat against Bournemouth. Thomas Frank’s team have kept four clean sheets in six and although this is likely to be a rotated team, there will still be enough quality to make add another shut out to their tally.
Doncaster have only failed to score twice all season, although both of those came on the road in defeats against Huddersfield Town and Wigan Athletic. They will take heart from their 4-0 demolition of Championship leaders Middlesbrough in the first round, but this is a big step up in class. Rovers also enter this game on the back of successive defeats and having scored just once in their last three away games in League One.
Third Prediction For Tottenham Hotspur vs Doncaster Rovers – Brennan Johnson To Score Anytime – 21/20
Brennan Johnson was Tottenham’s top scorer last season with 18 goals in all competitions and started this campaign in similar fashion. The Welsh international netted in Spurs’ opening two Premier League matches but has since found himself on the fringes of the squad. Frank has opted to drop the former Lincoln City loanee to the bench in each of the North Londoners last three games, including their Champions League win over Villarreal last week.
The winger should return to the starting lineup here and is likely to be a thorn in Doncaster’s side. He now has a point to prove to force his way back into the manager’s plans and expect him to grasp that opportunity with both hands.

Full Preview of the Game: Last Results and Head-To-Head
Tottenham’s form last season was well documented. They finished just one place above the relegation zone in 17th and despite winning their first piece of silverware since 2008 with victory in the Europa League, the club opted to part company with Ange Postecoglou. In came Thomas Frank from Brentford, who has hit the ground running in North London. They began the campaign with a comfortable 3-0 win over newly promoted Burnley, but followed that with an impressive 2-0 triumph at Manchester City. Therefore, it was a shock when they recorded their first and only loss of the season so far with a 1-0 home defeat against Bournemouth. Spurs returned from the international break in emphatic fashion with an excellent 3-0 demolition of rivals West Ham United before a narrow 1-0 win over Villarreal in the Champions League. They head into this game on the back of a point at Brighton & Hove Albion, where they were forced to come from two goals behind to earn a 2-2 draw.
Doncaster won an epic title race in League Two last season to force their way back into the third tier. They picked up where they left off by recording back-to-back wins over Exeter City (1-0) and Mansfield Town (2-1) before drawing 1-1 with Wycombe Wanderers. A first defeat followed against big-spending Huddersfield Town (2-0) but a trio of wins against Port Vale (1-0), Rotherham United (1-0) and Bradford City (3-1) lifted them into the automatic promotion places. However, Rovers have faltered since, losing successive fixtures against Wigan Athletic (3-0) and AFC Wimbledon (2-1). The Carabao Cup has seen Grant McCann pick up an emphatic 4-0 win over current Championship leaders Middlesbrough in the first round, followed by a comfortable 2-0 victory at Accrington Stanley to set up this mouth-watering clash.
Unsurprisingly, there isn’t a great deal of history in this fixture. The last meeting came in this competition in 2009, with Tottenham winning 5-0. This was their first pairing since 1975 when Spurs also ran out winners in the League Cup with a 7-2 victory. Doncaster hold just one triumph against the North London-based outfit, which was in their first ever meeting in 1935.
