Our Three Predictions For Millwall vs Watford:

  • First Prediction For Millwall vs Watford: Match Result – Millwall – 11/10
  • Second Prediction For Millwall vs Watford: Under 1.5 Goals – 7/4
  • Third Prediction For Millwall vs Watford: Both Teams To Score – No – 4/5

First Prediction For Millwall vs Watford: Match Result – Millwall – 11/10

Millwall haven’t had things go all their own way on home soil this season, losing both home league encounters. But with success against Coventry City in the Carabao Cup, they will be keen to return the sort of form they ended last season with at The Den, where they won five on the trot. Watford are eight games with a win on the road since defeating Middlesbrough in February, beginning this season with a difficult few results. But unlike Millwall, they did manage to pick up a point at Swansea City last month. Nevertheless, expect the home side to end their winless streak tomorrow evening.

Second Prediction For Millwall vs Watford: Under 1.5 Goals – 7/4

Goalscoring isn’t exactly expected to be high on Monday evening, given these two teams have scored a combined nine goals in ten Championship encounters this season. In the Hornets case at least, they will be confident of improving their scoring with games against Hull City, Portsmouth and Oxford United to follow. But Millwall face tougher assignments on paper, with fixtures against Swansea City, Coventry City and West Bromwich Albion before the next international break. While the Lions have been better infront of goal in the League Cup, expect a low-scoring encounter under the lights.

Third Prediction For Millwall vs Watford: Both Teams To Score – No – 4/5

Seven of the last ten meetings between the two sides have seen at least one team fail to get on the scoresheet, though three of the last four games have seen that occur. And in last seasons two fixtures, there were eight goals, with one win each. Only twice in Millwall’s first five games have both teams netted, while that figure is one higher for Watford in as many games. With that in mind, expect only one side to score on Monday evening, likely to be the home side in their first home league success of the campaign.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:

On the back of two London derbies, Millwall come into their penultimate encounter of September against another near neighbour, albeit not a side from the capital. Fresh from a six day break from action, the Lions squad will be completely refreshed from their Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Crystal Palace. To get to that stage of the competition, Millwall edged past Newport County in Round One thanks to Ryan Leonard’s goal on the hour mark. While narrowly avoiding an upset against League Two opposition, who have a history of giant-killings in cup competitions in recent years, the side from South Bermondsey were good value for their victory. Massimo Luongo and Kamarl Grant got the goals against second tier rivals Coventry City in the following round to set up another clash Crystal Palace, after facing their London rivals in the FA Cup back in March. The Eagles went on to win the competition after beating the Lions, and were on their way to another victory at Selhurst Park when Chris Richard’s put the home side ahead with eighteen minutes remaining.

But up popped Leonard in stoppage time to score another League Cup goal and take the game to penalties. But, their top-flight opponents prevailed on spot kicks four two. Returning to the league, Alex Neil’s side began the campaign by ending their 57 year wait for a victory at Norwich City thanks to Macaulay Langstaff’s late winner. Their early season progress was checked against Middlesbrough, as Boro put on a masterclass to win three nil at The Den. While Sheffield United have lost every game this season, Milwall’s victory at Bramall Lane felt like a big one thanks to Luke Cundle’s only goal, along with a strong defensive effort. But their topsy-turvy start continued against Wrexham, losing again on home soil. Both their September encounters have ended in draws, as another late goal was required to maintain their 29 year unbeaten record against Charlton Athletic. Substitute Ra’ees Bangura-Williams silenced The Valley crowd two minutes from time, sending the away end into frenzy against the Lions local rivals.

Watford manager Paulo Pezzolano is already under pressure to deliver at Vicarage Road, and his side are yet to live up to expectations following a difficult start to the campaign. Top-flight football has alluded this part of Hertfordshire since 2022, with the Hornets in their fourth season at this level. They are very much part of the Championship furniture and have yet to really trouble the promotion picture in the second tier since their relegation, finishing as high as eleventh. Watford have also faced Charlton Athletic this season at The Valley, but they were on the wrong side of a late goal on the opening weekend. Harvey Knibbs struck an injury-time winner in the early kick-off to condemn Pezzolano to a losing start, and things didn’t improve in the Carabao Cup 1st Round. Two goals inside the opening 25 minutes for Norwich City were enough for the Canaries to progress, despite Kwadwo Baah’s second half goal. But their fortunes improved in the rest of August, starting with three points against  Queens Park Rangers.

An early double from Luca Kjerrumgaard was enough to see of the Hoops, despite Kieran Morgan’s goal in first half stoppage time and Imran Louza’s late red card. And they were heading for consecutive victories at Swansea City until the Swans equalised eight minutes from time. Nestroy Irankunda scored a free-kick that day, and set-pieces against Southampton were once again on the agenda in an entertaining draw. Archer and Baah exchanged goals for both sides, before Manning and Irankunda scored from dead-ball situations for the second time this season late in the day. But following the international break, Watford’s improved run came to an abrupt end at the hands of Blackburn Rovers. That has left the Hornets just above the drop zone in the early standings, though three points at The Den will move them into the top half of the table following the weekends results.
