Our Three Predictions For Harrogate Town vs Shrewsbury Town

  • First Prediction: Harrogate Town – Draw No Bet – 4/5
  • Second Prediction: Both Teams To Score – 3/4
  • Third Prediction: Over 2.5 Goals – 1/1

First Prediction For Harrogate Town vs Shrewsbury Town – Harrogate Town – Draw No Bet – 4/5

This is a game that even the bookies have no idea where to pitch. Both teams are struggling at the wrong end of League Two, with Harrogate having nosedived in recent weeks. The Sulphurites actually started the season well, winning two and drawing two of their opening four games. However, since then, they have lost four on the bounce to slip to 17th. Their home form is somewhat of an unknown entity too, with one win, one draw and two defeats from their four outings in front of their own supporters. Simon Weaver will feel that the visit of a team lying in the relegation zone is the ideal opportunity to get their campaign back on track though, but protecting your stake with the draw no bet option would be wise.

Shrewsbury picked up their first win of the season in their last away outing when they won 3-1 at Barnet. That result perhaps masks over the cracks a little though, with Salop having lost their other three games on the road. This included conceding four twice when they lost 4-0 at Tranmere Rovers and 4-1 to Notts County.

Second Prediction For Harrogate Town vs Shrewsbury Town – Both Teams To Score – 3/4

Harrogate have kept just two clean sheets this season but have conceded in their last four. However, they’ve also only failed to score twice. Those blanks came in succession when they lost 2-0 to Bromley and 1-0 against Crawley Town, but they returning to goalscoring form during last weekend’s 3-1 defeat at Swindon Town. This will give them a little lift heading into this fixture, especially as they come up against the team with the worst defensive record in League Two.

Shrewsbury failed to score in their first three matches of the season but have done so just once since. Six of their last seven outings in all competitions have seen both teams score, a run which includes an impressive 3-1 victory over Barnet earlier this month. They lost to Salford City by the same scoreline in their last fixture, but it appears as if they are now starting to find their scoring boots. However, they are still struggling at the back and look nailed on to concede.

Third Prediction For Harrogate Town vs Shrewsbury Town – Over 2.5 Goals – 1/1

Harrogate rank 17th in this market in League Two this season, with just three of their eight games producing three or more goals. However, this tip is aimed more at the away side than The Sulphurites. Only Swindon Town have been in more high scoring games than Shrewsbury, especially now they seem to be scoring goals.

Michael Appleton’s team have seen four of their last five league games go over 2.5 goals, a run which can be extended to six in seven if we include their two games in the EFL Trophy. Both teams know that they need to get something out of this, which could make for a very open encounter at The Exercise Stadium.

Full Preview of the Game: Last Results and Head-To-Head

Harrogate have consistently been a fixture in the bottom half of League Two since their promotion from the National League in 2020. There was an optimism that could change at the beginning of the latest season after Simon Weaver’s side started well. They began with a 1-0 win against recently relegated Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium before following that with a respectable 3-3 home draw against Grimsby Town. They then secured another point against one of last season’s League One casualties with a 1-1 draw at Cambridge United before picking up their second win of the campaign with a 1-0 triumph over Barrow. However, they’ve faltered since, losing four successive games against Chesterfield (2-1), Bromley (2-0), Crawley Town (1-0) and Swindon Town (3-1).

Shrewsbury dropped into League Two for the first time in 10 years in May and have struggled to adapt to life in the fourth tier. They started with a 0-0 draw against Bromley but then fell to four losses on the bounce against Tranmere Rovers (4-0), Colchester United (2-0), Notts County (4-1) and Swindon Town (2-1). Salop then stopped the rot with four points from six with a 0-0 home draw against Accrington Stanley before their first win of the season against Barnet (3-1). However, they have since returned to losing ways by falling 3-1 to Salford City last weekend.

With Shrewsbury having spent 10 seasons in League One and Harrogate promoted to League Two for the first time in 2020, this is the first meeting between the pair.
