Rotherham United play host to Exeter City at the AESSEAL New York Stadium as focus returns to Sky Bet League One on Saturday.
Our Three Predictions for Rotherham United vs Exeter City
- First Prediction: Match to end in a draw – 9/4
- Second Prediction: Over 1.5 goals to be scored – 3/10
- Third Prediction: Josh Magennis to score at any time – 11/4

First Prediction for Rotherham United vs Exeter City – Match to end in a draw – 9/4
It’s fair to say both sides have had a very mixed start to the 2025/26 campaign, Rotherham United winning one and drawing one of their five opening league games, and losing the other three, whilst their opponents Exeter City are yet to draw and have won and lost the same number of games with three each. However, interestingly, the Millers are unbeaten at home, their two games where they have avoided defeat both coming at the AESSEAL New York Stadium. Although opposition Exeter currently sit higher than their hosts, they have played one more game than them, and in terms of their away record, they have lost two of their three games on the road. The Grecians do come into this game on better form, but their poor away form could be their downfall, as it was for the most part last season. On top of this, the previous meeting between these two sides in Yorkshire finished in a 1-1 draw. Based on the early-season results, it wouldn’t be surprising to see this one end up level at full-time.
Second Prediction for Rotherham United vs Exeter City – Over 1.5 goals to be scored – 3/10
Neither side have an amazing record when it comes to scoring goals and then keeping them out at the other end. Matthew Hamshaw’s side have one of the lowest scoring records in the third tier this season, but also don’t have a good record when it comes to being defensively solid either. Scoring four goals but conceding eight, this leaves the side on a -4 goal difference already, with the side yet to keep a clean sheet in the league, keeping only one in the Carabao Cup against League Two outfit Salford City. The Millers have conceded six in their last five, whilst scoring three in the process, whilst Exeter have scored five in their last five, three of which came last weekend. In terms of Exeter’s defence, they’ve conceded six goals in their last five in all competitions, which is the same number they’ve conceded in the league. In terms of goalscoring in the league, they have so far scored nine goals, which is the joint-third best record. The statistics suggest that more than 1.5 goals will be scored in this match.
Third Prediction for Rotherham United vs Exeter City – Josh Magennis to score at any time – 11/4
Whilst striker Josh Magennis has surprisingly not been called up on international duty for his nation, Northern Ireland, it means his side get to keep the in-form striker in such a crucial game early on. Magennis has started his season well in terms of goalscoring, scoring three goals in five League One games this season. The experienced forward got two against Peterborough United last weekend to help his side to a comfortable 3-0 victory, meaning he’s currently Exeter’s top scorer, and the joint-third top-scorer in the division. With the 35-year-old so in form, there’s no doubt he’ll want to help his side pick up more points against a defensively shoddy Rotherham on Saturday.

Full Preview of the Game – Last Results and Head-To-Head
As mentioned above, both sides come into this game in mixed form. Although the hosts won on the opening day of the season, they haven’t won since, drawing two and losing the other five games in all competitions. Whilst they’ve lost three back-to-back games, Exeter have won two of their last three games, but have lost three of their previous five fixtures in all competitions so far.
Neither side finished in the top half of the third tier last season, Rotherham finishing above Exeter in 13th, by three places and three points. Whilst both sides will be looking to push on from this, with the strength of League One this season, that may not happen, but three points in this encounter would help either side push on.
Since 2012, these sides have only faced each other four times, twice in League One and twice in League Two. Hamshaw’s side have won two of these encounters, whilst Exeter have won once, the other tie ending in a draw. The last game between these sides ended 1-1 at the AESSEAL New York Stadium, Alex Hatridge’s second-half goal ruling out Reece James’ opener on the stroke of half-time.
