Bolton Wanderers will look to put their run of four successive draws behind them when they host AFC Wimbledon at the Toughsheet Community Stadium in League One on Saturday.
Our Three Predictions For Bolton Wanderers vs AFC Wimbledon
- First Prediction: Bolton Wanderers To Win – 3/5
- Second Prediction: Both Teams To Score – 9/10
- Third Prediction: Over 2.5 Goals – 19/20
First Prediction For Bolton Wanderers vs AFC Wimbledon – Bolton Wanderers To Win – 3/5
It’s fair to say that Bolton’s season hasn’t really kicked into gear yet. They have won just one of their opening six League One fixtures and currently sit 14th in the table. Steven Schumacher’s side have drawn their last four 1-1, but there is a sense that their performances are not getting the points they deserve. They particularly dominated in their last two outings – against Blackpool and Lincoln City – the latter of which needed a 97th minute own goal to secure the point. A home tie against one of the newly promoted sides may be just the tonic they need, especially after a 1-0 win at the Toughsheet Community Stadium in the EFL Trophy earlier this week.
Wimbledon may be higher than Bolton in the league table (12th) but they enter this game on a run of four defeats from their last five outings in all competitions. They were hammered 5-1 by Stevenage in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday night, although it is perhaps unfair to use that result as a bearing. What is worth considering though is the Dons have lost two of their three league fixtures on the road thus far, the latest of which came against Bradford City last weekend.
Second Prediction For Bolton Wanderers vs AFC Wimbledon – Both Teams To Score – 9/10
It’s easy to see why this prediction has been backed when looking at Bolton’s recent results. Their last four league games have finished 1-1, three of which they have conceded first. The Trotters are a team in transition and are likely to be challenging for a top six finish, but still seem a little suspect at the back.
Wimbledon have scored eight times in League One thus far, which is more than their opponents here. However, they are averaging one goal a game conceded and are yet to keep a clean sheet away from Plough Lane.
Third Prediction For Bolton Wanderers vs AFC Wimbledon – Over 2.5 Goals – 19/20
Bolton seem to have an aura about them at the moment that when it clicks, they are going to blow somebody away. Unfortunately for Wimbledon, it could be them. Steven Schumacher knows that his team need to start converting their chances. They have had to come from behind in three of their last four games and very nearly came away with nothing in their last home game. Lincoln City took the lead after just 13 seconds and Bolton had to rely on a Tom Hamer own goal with almost the last kick of the game to secure the point. With just one clean sheet in six, it is likely they will need to score twice to pick up their second victory of the campaign.
Wimbledon fare better than Bolton in this market, although only just. Two of their opening six games have produced three or more goals, although both of those have come away from home. The first saw them win 2-1 at Reading before last weekend’s 3-2 defeat against Bradford City. Two of their previous three trips to the Toughsheet Community Stadium have produced four goals, with Bolton winning 4-0 in 2022 and the pair drawing 2-2 in 2019.

Full Preview of the Game: Last Results and Head-To-Head
Bolton entered the campaign as one of the pre-season favourites for promotion after falling short in their bid to reach the play-offs last time out. A 2-0 defeat against Stockport County on the opening day was a blow, but they followed that by beating newly relegated Plymouth Argyle by the same scoreline a week later. Steven Schumacher has made many changes to his playing squad over the summer which seems to have led to a transition phase though. This has been evident over the last few weeks by recording four successive 1-1 draws against Barnsley, Reading, Lincoln City and Blackpool. There has been a sense in recent weeks that their performances haven’t necessarily garnered the results they deserve and there is a growing feeling that they need to start turning one point into three in order to avoid losing ground on those towards the top end of the table.
AFC Wimbledon rejoined League One after last season’s play-off success and started the campaign with a 1-0 defeat at Kenilworth Road against Luton Town. However, they went down to a late Ryan Johnson own goal and were unlucky to leave Bedfordshire with nothing. They recorded their first win a week later with a 2-0 home victory over Lincoln City and followed that with another success at Reading (2-1). Johnnie Jackson will have been disappointed to lose against table toppers Cardiff City in the final minute but they quickly recovered by beating Barnsley 2-0. They do enter this game on the back of a loss though, having been beaten 3-2 by Bradford City last weekend.
This is the first meeting between the pair since February 2022, with Bolton winning 4-0. The return fixture that season finished 3-3, which is one of four draws between the two sides in their six previous encounters. The Trotters won the remainder 2-1 in 2016, whilst Wimbledon are still to taste victory over the Greater Manchester-based side.
