Bolton Wanderers look set to retain their midfield asset, Aaron Morley. Bids from League One sides have been rejected and the midfielder looks set to remain in Lancashire.
Morley has featured in five games across all competitions for Bolton. Since arriving from Wycombe Wanderers in January 2025, for his second spell with Bolton, the 25-year-old has featured 24 times and scored four goals. Between 2022 and 2024, Morley played 122 games for Wanderers and scored 12 times.
League One clubs have been heavily interested in the midfielder, with Luton and Wycombe bids now being deterred by Bolton in order to keep hold of Morley. According to Pete O’Rourke, both sides have seen their bids fully rejected and there is very little chance of a move this summer.
Bolton have recently unveiled Marcus Forss, on loan from Middlesbrough, in a Deadline Day deal. John McAtee’s future continues to be up in the air, with bids expected for the striker. Loan players have been the clear focus in Bolton’s recruitment this summer, so a permanent offloading of Morley would not be in their best interest.
The midfield department is looking healthy for Bolton, with Steven Schumacher’s side signing Ethan Erhahon from Lincoln City already this window. Xavier Simons moved to Wanderers too on a permanent transfer from Championship side, Hull City. Captain George Thomason joining Wrexham has also left a vacancy in the more experienced leaders in the Bolton group – this is why Morley is so essential to keep in Schumacher’s opinion.
Writer’s View
Morley is a great squad player for Bolton, with a key necessity for squad depth still being important this season. Despite improving their midfield with the likes of Erhahon and Randall in recent windows, Morley will remain a Wanderers player to help rotate the side during difficult, congested spells or cup fixtures.
The fans of Bolton will be glad to have deterred other clubs away from this signature. Morley is a fantastic servant for the Bolton team and has been for many years either side of a Wycombe move.
