Our Three Predictions For Lincoln City vs Mansfield Town

  • First Prediction: Lincoln City To Win – 6/5
  • Second Prediction: Both Teams To Score- 4/5
  • Third Prediction: James Collins To Score Anytime – 2/1

First Prediction For Lincoln City vs Mansfield Town – Lincoln City To Win – 6/5

Lincoln City have enjoyed an excellent start to the season and will begin the day just outside the play-off places. The Imps have lost just one of their opening seven games in all competitions, that defeat coming against AFC Wimbledon in the second league game of the campaign. However, it must be said that Michael Skubala’s team had to play with 10 men for the majority of the contest following Adam Jackson’s first half sending off. Five of Lincoln’s games so far this season have come away from home, including both Carabao Cup ties, but they have a 100% record at the LNER Stadium. They recorded a comfortable 2-0 victory over Reading on the opening day before beating Plymouth Argyle 3-2 two weeks later. The scoreline against the Pilgrims doesn’t reflect just how well the East Midlands-based outfit played that day. They dominated the opening 70 minutes before Tom Cleverley’s side set up a nervy end with two late goals. Having beat Burton Albion in the League Cup on Tuesday night, they set up a mouth-watering clash with World Champions Chelsea in the third round, and they will be keen to maintain their excellent home form heading into the clash with the Premier League giants.

Mansfield endured a rocky start, losing their first two games of the season. They have won their last three in the league though to move into the top half of the table, although it’s worth considering that two of those results came in front of their own supporters. Their two away fixtures to date have produced opposite results though. They lost 2-1 at Burton on the opening day but beat Exeter City by the same scoreline a fortnight later. Nigel Clough opted to start his strongest side in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup defeat against Everton, meaning the hosts may feel somewhat refreshed having rotated their team a day prior.

Second Prediction For Lincoln City vs Mansfield Town – Both Teams To Score – 4/5

Although Lincoln have been strong, they have shown they are somewhat leaky at the back. They conceded twice against both Wimbledon and Plymouth and are currently shipping on average a goal a game. However, their 1-1 draw against Bolton Wanderers last weekend doesn’t tell half the story. They led for well over 90 minutes after Freddie Draper handed them the lead just 19 seconds. The Trotters were met with an inspired George Wickens in the Imps goal, but finally got their reward in the 97th minute when defender Tom Hamer diverted into his own net.

Unbelievably, Mansfield enter this game as the division’s joint-highest scorers. They’ve found the back of the net 10 times, a feat only matched by second-placed Huddersfield Town. Nigel Clough’s team have scored in every league game they have played this season, whilst they also put four past last season’s beaten play-off finalists Leyton Orient last weekend. However, it’s certainly worth noting that they’ve kept just one clean sheet, which came in the 2-0 victory over Blackpool earlier this month.

Third Prediction For Lincoln City vs Mansfield Town – James Collins To Score Anytime – 2/1

Lincoln do possess a host of attacking talent, so it’s not a guarantee that James Collins even starts this game. However, he is a player that knows where they back of the net is at this level and needs just one more goal to break the 200 barrier in the EFL. The 34-year-old signed for the Imps in January and scored 10 goals in 20 appearances during an impressive start to life at the LNER Stadium. He has two to his name this season, both of which came in the 3-2 win over Plymouth.

Collins is having to compete for his place with Freddie Draper, Rob Street and Freddie Okoronkwo, but Michael Skubala has shown that he is willing to play three of his attackers at once. Despite that, he is capable of finding the back of the net at a moments notice. Afterall, he does have 82 League One goals to his name.

Full Preview of the Game: Last Results and Head-To-Head

Just one point separates the two teams heading into this game, with Lincoln in seventh and Mansfield in ninth. The Imps are once again proving how tough they are to beat and showed very early that they are confident of launching an assault on the play-off places with a comfortable 2-0 win over Reading on the opening day. They followed that with a 2-0 defeat at newly promoted AFC Wimbledon, although did play a large chunk of the game with 10 men following defender Adam Jackson’s first half dismissal. Michael Skubala’s team then took a break from their League One exploits by beating Harrogate Town in the Carabao Cup first round before another impressive home victory with a 3-2 result over Plymouth Argyle. It’s fair to say they’ve been below par in recent weeks though, although they ground out a narrow 1-0 win over Northampton Town before they had to settle for a point at Bolton Wanderers last weekend after Tom Hamer headed into his own net in the 97th minute. The East Midlanders will be buoyed by their 1-0 triumph at Burton Albion on Tuesday night in the League Cup, a result which sets up a third round clash against World Champions Chelsea.

Mansfield started the campaign slowly, losing their first two games of the season. They were first defeated by Burton (2-1) on the opening day but will have been disappointed to lose by the same scoreline to Doncaster Rovers at Field Mill a week later. They kickstarted their campaign with a 2-0 win over Chesterfield in the Carabao Cup first round, taking that form into their clash with Exeter City later that week to pick up their first three points of the season. Nigel Clough will be delighted that they have continued to build on that, picking up further victories over Blackpool (2-0) and Leyton Orient (4-1). They will travel the short distance to Sincil Bank fresh from having played at Everton’s new stadium on Wednesday night, where they exited the League Cup with a 2-0 defeat.

Lincoln comfortably won both meetings last season, winning 4-1 at the LNER Stadium in August 2024 before a 3-0 victory at Field Mill in February. The Stags haven’t beaten their rivals in the league since a 1-0 win at Sincil Bank in 2017, although did win 2-1 in a meeting in the EFL Trophy in 2018. There has been very little to separate the two sides over the years though. In 77 prior clashes, Lincoln have won 29 times to Mansfield’s 28. A draw has featured on 20 occasions.
