Huddersfield Town play host to newly-promoted Doncaster Rovers in a mini-Yorkshire derby at the Accu Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Our Three Predictions for Huddersfield Town vs Doncaster Rovers
- First Prediction: Huddersfield Town to win – 4/5
- Second Prediction: Both teams to score – 3/4
- Third Prediction: Alfie May to score at any time – 6/5

First Prediction for Huddersfield Town vs Doncaster Rovers – Huddersfield Town to win – 4/5
Despite losing disappointingly to 10-man Blackpool on Saturday, the Terriers have been almost perfect this season, winning comfortably against last season’s play-off finalists Leyton Orient and Reading, before beating Championship side Leicester City on penalties to make it through to the second round of the Carabao Cup. If Lee Grant’s side are serious about winning promotion, they need to show that they can bounce back against Doncaster, a side who are currently unbeaten since winning League Two last season. Wins over Exeter City and Mansfield Town, as well as a draw against Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday, have meant Grant McCann’s side currently sit fifth. However, this season, for the Terriers, home form will prove crucial in their promotion charge, and whilst it wasn’t the best last season, they won their opening home game 3-0, dominating Orient in terms of chances. With the squad Huddersfield have, alongside the fact that they are at home, it’s clear to see why the Terriers are backed to win this game.
Second Prediction for Huddersfield Town vs Doncaster Rovers – Both teams to score – 3/4
One thing both sides have proved they can do consistently this season is find the back of the net. The hosts have scored nine goals in four games, whilst their opponents have scored one less in eight. Whilst goal-scoring hasn’t been a problem for either side, defensively, both sides will be looking to further improve, and as it’s still the early stages, neither side can say they are defensively sound yet. The Terriers have shipped five goals in their last two games after keeping back-to-back clean sheets, whilst Rovers have also kept two clean sheets, but conceded three fewer goals. They conceded in disappointing style in the second half to Mike Dodds’ Wycombe side on Saturday, which has only happened twice in the whole time Dodds has been in charge at Adams Park. Although both sides have a decent record of keeping goals out, they can very clearly score them too, meaning this could be a reasonably high-scoring affair.
Third Prediction for Huddersfield Town vs Doncaster Rovers – Bet on Alfie May to score at any time – 6/5
If anyone is going to score on Tuesday, it will be former Doncaster man Alfie May. If you’re looking for a proven League One striker, Alfie May certainly fits the bill. Across several clubs, he’s shown time and again that he can find the net at this level. Huddersfield paid £1.2 million to bring him in from Birmingham City, and early signs suggest he’s already justifying that seven-figure investment. The 32-year-old wasted little time, scoring his first goal for the club in the win over Leyton Orient at home just a fortnight ago. Both May and his new side will be eager to build on that momentum, and May will be hoping he can help his side gain another crucial win against a Doncaster team who will be looking to cause an upset at the Accu Stadium.

Full Preview of the Game – Last Results and Head-To-Head
As mentioned above, both sides come into this game on mainly good form, the hosts only losing one game this campaign so far, whilst their opponents, who have made the highly-anticipated return to the third tier, are yet to be beaten this season, but dropped points against Wycombe on the weekend.
Huddersfield will be looking to return to the Championship this season, with a strong transfer window and a new manager in Grant at the helm. For McCann and his side, their goal would’ve been at the beginning of the season to avoid the drop, but after a really strong start, they will hope they can start asking questions at the top of the table.
Since 2013, these sides have only met five times, twice in pre-season friendlies, twice in the Championship and once in the EFL Trophy. The away side often get the better of these opponents, winning three of the five games, with Huddersfield only winning once. The other encounter ended level at full-time. When these sides met in the EFL Trophy group stages last season, Donny won 2-1 thanks to goals from loanee Ephraim Yeboah and striker Ironside, which ruled out Danny Ward’s then equaliser to help Rovers through to the next round after topping the group.
