Our Three Predictions For Oldham Athletic v Colchester United

Prediction 1 – Oldham Athletic To Win – 13/10

Prediction 2 – Under 2.5 Goals Scored – 13/20

Prediction 3 – Match To End In A Draw – 11/5

First Prediction For Oldham Athletic v Colchester United – Oldham Athletic To Win – 13/10

Oldham Athletic returned to the Football League with a very credible draw at preseason promotion favourites MK Dons. The 0-0 draw away set up the homecoming against Colchester United as one they could well get their first win from. The home crowd will no doubt be instrumental. They have won their last three home games, including a resounding playoff semi-final, and momentum is still on their side. Colchester United are often slow starters, and their 1-1 home draw against Tranmere Rovers would not have been the way they wanted to start the new season. Expect the home crowd to push their team on in what will be a tense close game.

Second Prediction For Oldham Athletic v Colchester United – Under 2.5 Goals Scored – 13/20

Both teams struggled last weekend in front of goal, and this was a shock for Oldham as they were free scoring last season with 64 in total. Obviously the step up was always going to be harder and they did play one of the sides expected to do well this time around. They boasted a mean defence with only 48 conceded in 46 hard games, so they are built well, and a reason why this could well be a low scoring game. Colchester were quite even last season with 52 scored and 47 let in, and that level setting carried through to last weeks draw. They will need to be stronger if they are to threaten the playoff spots again, but this has all the makings of being another low scoring game.

Third Prediction For Oldham Athletic v Colchester United – Match To End In A Draw – 11/5

So, given that both teams drew their first game, and will not want to lose in this second outing, as points early on settle the jitters in the camp, we could be looking at a very close game. With both also failing to really threaten plenty of goals in their opening games, it may well be a repeat and with the sides cancelling each other out a point apiece may well be the best outcome for both as they look to stay unbeaten in this early stage of the campaign.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head To Head

Micky Mellon will be wanting more of the same from last week as his Oldham Athletic side gained a very decent point on the road at MK Dons, and now will enjoy the first home match of the season in front of a packed Boundary Park. Can they get the first win, in fact the first goal, of the season? To do so they will need Mike Fondop on top form, alongside Tom Conlon. They are strong at the back With Reagan Ogle and Donervon Daniels, with the youngest player in the team Jake Leake forming a decent line.

Colchester United were on the fringes of the playoff race last season and at point did look like they would make a real challenge. Danny Cowley will be hoping he can work his magic again at the is level, and his team will need to avoid defeat in this game to avoid a slow start which has often plagued the club. Kyreece Lisbie grabbed the goal last week in the 1-1 draw, but the front line will need more output from Owura Edwards and Will Goodwin. Jack Tucker had an impressive first game, and will be one to watch. Ben Perry and Tom Flanagan bring youth and experience to the side.
