1st prediction for Peterborough United vs Luton Town: Luton Town to win or draw – 1/5

This is a fascinating match up. Peterborough had a poor season by their standards last season, finishing in the lower reaches and at one point looking at risk of relegation. Their season was characterised by a good attacking record but a dismal defensive one, which dragged them into trouble. A loss at Cardiff on the opening day continued their poor run into the new season, and they’ll be hoping a home victory this weekend will put that right despite difficult opponents. As for Luton, they are one of the favourites in League One after a double relegation and will be hoping things start to look up. There were signs of a resurgence last season under Matt Bloomfield but not enough to avoid the drop, and they now find themselves in the third tier again. They undoubtedly have one of the stronger squads in the division and started well with a scrappy 1-0 over Wimbledon on the opening day. Posh will be tough opponents but they will likely fancy themselves to make it two consecutive wins this weekend.

2nd prediction for Peterborough United vs Luton Town: Over 2.5 goals in the game – 3/5

This should be an entertaining game with plenty of goals. Posh are known for their expansive, attacking style of play under Darren Ferguson and will hope to bounce back from defeat with a confident, front-foot performance in their first game at home. Luton will also look to attack with their strength though they may need to make use of the fewer chances they may have, but with their quality they are likely to do that. Peterborough are unlikely to compromise on their style and with their leaky defence last year, the same may occur in 2025-26 which will only encourage the away team. Both sides may also be defensively vulnerable as squads gel with each other at the start of a new campaign, which could lead to both sides shipping goals. Either way, expect goals.

3rd prediction for Peterborough United vs Luton Town: Both teams to score – 13/25

This is a game where both sides will go for it, which will likely see a very open game. Both sides will want to put on a show and make a statement of intent, with Posh wanting a first win of the season in front of their own fans, will Luton will want to remain unbeaten to set out their credentials early on. As discussed previously, the context of this game with the attacking talent and early season experimenting means goals and mistakes are potentially more likely. Tactically, this will be interesting too. Posh will want to attack but will be wary of Luton, who may have to sit back and counter at times. Either way, both sides will have plenty of opportunity to get themselves on the score sheet.

Full preview of the game: last results and head to head

This is a really exciting game so early on. Both sides will look to play on the front foot which will create a great spectacle. Posh come into this having lost their opening game 2-1 at Cardiff, while Luton scraped past Wimbledon 1-0. Both sides struggled last season, albeit in different divisions, and will look to this game to get their 2025-26 campaign off to a better start.
