League One newcomers AFC Wimbledon host Lincoln City in the second matchday in the third tier on Saturday at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.
Our Three Predictions for AFC Wimbledon vs Lincoln City
- First Prediction: Lincoln City to win – 7/5
- Second Prediction: Over 1.5 goals to be scored – 17/50
- Third Prediction: Rob Street to score at any time – 23/10

First Prediction for AFC Wimbledon vs Lincoln City – Lincoln City to win – 7/5
Whilst the hosts were pipped by many to struggle after promotion this season, they gave a good account of themselves at Luton Town last Friday, ultimately only ending up conceding to an unfortunate own goal from centre-back Ryan Johnson. Their opponents, Lincoln City, got off to the perfect start at home to Reading, winning 2-0, and they will no doubt be looking to carry that form into this clash. Although the Wombles return home, playing in front of their fans, where they experienced so much success last season, this is a step up from what the side are used to, and facing off against a team who have registered back-to-back wins with comfortable scorelines against two strong sides in West Bromwich Albion in pre-season and Reading last weekend, won’t be easy. Despite returning home after a solid display last weekend, the away team look better than the hosts, and should win this game on Saturday.
Second Prediction for AFC Wimbledon vs Lincoln City – Over 1.5 goals to be scored – 17/50
Neither side experienced high-scoring affairs last weekend, but both have been scoring and conceding goals aplenty in pre-season. The Imps have scored 12 times in their previous five games, two of which came against a strong Reading side last weekend, but have also conceded 10 goals in the same amount of time. They were impressive in front of goal in their opening fixture, and kept a clean sheet on top of that; however, AFC Wimbledon’s scoring record last season was miles better at home than it was away from home. Johnnie Jackson’s side have struggled to find the net on the road, not being able to score on Friday, and scoring only four times in their last five games in total. Lincoln’s strong record in front of goal and not-so-strong record at the other end, mixed with AFC Wimbledon’s defensive weaknesses and better goalscoring record at home, should mean there should hopefully be goals.
Third Prediction for AFC Wimbledon vs Lincoln City – Rob Street to score at any time – 23/10
Striker Rob Street had a hugely successful second-half of the season loan spell at League Two winners Doncaster Rovers last season, scoring 12 goals in 22 League Two games to help the side to promotion. Despite his goal last weekend ultimately going down as an own goal, he was the Lincoln player who ultimately got the last touch on the ball before it rebounded in off Reading’s Finley Burns. This positive start will give the 23-year-old confidence, especially as he played more of a wide position last weekend than he’s used to. Lincoln and Street will be hoping he can officially get off the mark this weekend against AFC Wimbledon.

Full Preview of the Game – Last Results and Head-To-Head
As mentioned above, both sides come into this game in differing form, the hosts struggling in the last few weeks, whilst the away side have won back-to-back games following their strong start to the season last weekend.
Both sides’ aspirations for the season will also be completely different, Jackson hoping he can lead his side to League One safety, whilst Skubala and his side will be looking to improve on the 11th-placed finish they achieved last season.
These sides have met six times since 2017, all bar one of the games coming in League One. AFC Wimbledon and Lincoln City have both won two games each, whilst the other two have ended level at full time. The most recent clash between the sides ended in a 2-0 win in Lincoln City’s favour, thanks to goals from Lewis Fiorini and Teddy Bishop.
