Our Three Predictions For Chesterfield v Barrow

Prediction 1 – Chesterfield To Win  – 29/50

Prediction 2 – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 3/4

Prediction 3 – Over 2.5 Goals Scored – 3/4

First Prediction For Chesterfield v Barrow – Chesterfield To Win – 29/50

The start of a new season always brings fresh hope but off the back of a decent campaign last time out, Chesterfield will be hoping their fine home form will continue in this opening game. They only lost four times in the whole season at home, winning 10 and drawing the same number, something they will be conscious of as they need to turn some of those draws into wins to push higher in the table. Barrow on the other hand had the 18th worst away record in the division, and that will have to be better as they won only five times on the road, losing 11.

Second Prediction For Chesterfield v Barrow – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 3/4

There should be goal chances in this game given how poor Barrow were last season on the road, and the good form that Chesterfield presented at home. the visitors only managed 18 goals on the road, but they did only concede 28 so they were never completely swamped. They may have a tricky time keeping their hosts at bay though, as Chesterfield were the second highest scorers on home turf with 41, only bettered by Walsall’s 48. They did concede 29 so it wasn’t all clean sheets and plain sailing, so both sides could well end up on the scoreboard at the end of play.

Third Prediction For Chesterfield v Barrow – Over 2.5 Goals Scored – 3/4

So, with a home side that could carry over home form, and an away team that is trying to recover from a bad year on the road, we could see some action in the penalty area. As outlined before, goal come easily for the home side when they play in front of their loyal support. Opening day always has that extra buzz and they will want to mark an early impression. Barrow could sneak a goal themselves, but this could be open season on their goal, and the 2.5 does look like an achievable mark.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head To Head

You can never really count out a Paul Cook side. The manager has been around the lower leagues and indeed non-league for so long now that his savvy will count for extra in the new season. Getting off to a strong start will be important, and a home game is the perfect way to lay some foundation, although that will come with extra pressure in a game they are huge favourites to win. Cook has brought in some new faces, and many should see their debuts for the club, so watch out for Zach Hemming, Ryan Stirk, and Dilan Markandy.

Barrow started last season well, and did look like they would hang around in the playoff spots for a while. However, they fell away badly and couldn’t recover. Andy Whing will have his work cut out to make this campaign a success, and may be content with a mid table finish. The odds are against his side making a fast start in this opening fixture, but it is League Two football so you just never know. New signing Tom Barkhuizen, an arrival just this week could well make an impact, and if he shows any of his form from his days at Preston North End and Derby County, then the Barrow fans may well have a new favourite player.
