Both teams managed to survive the drop into the National League, but only just. This could’ve been a game with so much riding on it, but other teams’ poor results last week meant that both Newport County and Tranmere Rovers will be playing League Two football next season.
Our Three Predictions For Newport County v Tranmere Rovers
- Prediction 1 – Tranmere Rovers To Win – 61/100
- Prediction 2 – Match To End In a Draw – 13/5
- Prediction 3 – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 3/4
First Prediction For Newport County v Tranmere Rovers – Tranmere Rovers To Win – 61/100
Newport County come into this game having not won in their previous four on home soil, and will want to finish the season on a high. Their narrow escape from relegation may be enough for them to play with a bit more freedom and at home they have picked up the majority of their points. They have won 10 games, almost half of the amount played at home. Tranmere Rovers have finished the season much stronger though, and their scare of falling through the trap door just kept them treading water. Away from home though they have suffered, and have not won on the road in the last four attempts, and indeed have only won three times away all season. They do though have an edge in that their hosts are currently the second worst team in the form guide over the last six outings.
Second Prediction For Newport County v Tranmere Rovers – Match To End In a Draw – 13/5
With the season now effectively over these two teams can play without pressure. The onus was on them to get results in the past few weeks to keep the dreaded drop at bay, but with that threat now gone, the collective sigh of relief could be heard from South Wales to Merseyside and back. The two have managed to pick up enough points, and even though the losses outweighed the wins, it was the draws that helped keep them afloat. 10 for Newport, and 15 for Tranmere, recently though the Welsh outfit have picked up two in the last three games including a credible one against promotion chasing Walsall. Tranmere have two draws in the last four, and three in the last four away trips. With a win no longer vital, this could be a game where goals do flow, but in equal measure.
Third Prediction For Newport County v Tranmere Rovers – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 3/4
The inability of both to keep goals out means that there could be plenty of scrappy action in front of the posts. That said it is also the lack of goals that has seen them struggle. At home Newport have managed 31 of their overall total of 51, so not shy, but they conceded a whopping 72. Tranmere fare a little better with 64 let in overall, but even though they come up against one of the worst defences in the EFL they only have 41 themselves so far. This will be a figure they hope to improve on and they have scored 11 in the last six games, and five in the last three trips away. Newport the will have to improve on their one goal in the last four home games, and with the shackles well and truly off this may mean a high scoring draw is on the cards to finish this gruelling season.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head To Head
Not one player for Newport County has got into double figure in the scoring charts, but Bobby Kamwa is on nine and there is every chance he could get into double digits in this game. If not he also has five assists and will take pleasure in helping Courtney Baker-Richardson get past his total of four. These low number show how much of a struggle it has been for Dafydd Williams’ side this season. It has been one that has seen a slow but steady slide down the table in the latter stages of the campaign. Defensively they have been very poor. Matt Baker has been practically ever present and even has four goals to his name, the 29 year old has been a highlight, but needed more support from his colleagues. Cameron Evans has tried to create a spark in midfield, but as the season come to a close it is clear the team needs a fresh shuffle.
Andy Crosby has taken this Tranmere Rovers team to the brink again, and they have survived, again. Surely one year they will fall foul of the drop, unless they can manage to reinvent themselves. Having said that they have never been a push over, but teams do not fear playing them. They will be in League Two again, but how many of the current squad will be at the club is a different question. For this last game 35 year old Kristian Dennis will lead the line, trying to add to his eight goal season, and Omari Patrick will aim to impress by topping up his team leading 10 goals, as well as his handy creative side leading to four assists so far. Veteran duo Tom Davies and Jordan Turnbull, 63 years between them have been the mainstays at the back, and one last effort in this game could see them end on a high.
