Our Three Predictions For Crewe Alexandra vs Walsall:

  • First Prediction For Crewe Alexandra vs Walsall: Match Result – Draw – 12/5
  • Second Prediction For Crewe Alexandra vs Walsall: Both Teams To Score – Yes – 3/4
  • Third Prediction For Crewe Alexandra vs Walsall: Half-Time Result – Walsall – 7/5

First Prediction For Crewe Alexandra vs Walsall: Match Result – Draw – 12/5

These are two of the most out-of-form outfits in the fourth tier. While Crewe were victorious on the opening day of April, they have lost four of the last five to end their dreams of a Play-Off place. The Alex have a disappointing home record though, winning only nine times at Grety Road this term. Walsall are on the longest winless run in League Two (13), and yet they miraculously have a chance of automatic promotion on the final day. Sitting sixth in the away standings, the Saddlers have lost only six times away from home all season. While a run of one loss in eight appears good, they have drawn six times. If Mat Sadler’s outfit were winning in the West Midlands, then drawing away wouldn’t be an issue, but this isn’t the case. Expect a final day stalemate.

Second Prediction For Crewe Alexandra vs Walsall: Both Teams To Score – Yes – 3/4

Despite everything that has happened over the past twenty games, Walsall still top the scoring charts in the fourth tier. But their tally of 74 is accompanied by shipping 54 goals, which has ultimately been their undoing when the goals have dried up. The Saddlers are scoreless in three of the last four, while Crewe haven’t found the back of the net in their past three. Nevertheless, games at the end of the season often throw up surprises. Given that Walsall need three points to realistically keep their automatic promotion hopes alive, expect both sides to be on the scoresheet.

Third Prediction For Crewe Alexandra vs Walsall: Half-Time Result – Walsall – 7/5

Any game in which Walsall are the favourites to lead at the interval should come as a huge surprise. Walsall were well-known for their second-half capabilities during the first part of the season, but they sit fifteenth in the opening 45-minute standings. Crewe are twentieth in this table, trailing fifteen times in the first period of games. With that in mind, and with everything at stake for the Saddlers on Saturday, it wouldn’t be a surprise if they held a half-time lead this weekend.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:

Crewe Alexandra’s aspirations of a Play-Off spot are now over. When the Alex defeated Grimsby Town at the start of April, they moved to within a point of the seventh-place Mariners with six games remaining. But a five-game winless streak since, including four losses, has ended the dream of a second successive finish in the top seven. Last term, Lee Bell’s side turned around a two-goal deficit at Doncaster Rovers in the Semi-Finals, before being defeated by Crawley Town at Wembley. But the new season got off to a horrible start, losing at Barrow on the opening day before Chesterfield put five past them. Five wins from six quickly turned their campaign around, with a twelve-game unbeaten streak following. Unfortunately, seven of those results were draws. That was to their detriment, as they missed the chance to go into Christmas in the automatic promotion places with a draw against Colchester United.

But the second half of the campaign has been much tougher, with Crewe slowly falling down the table and out of top-seven contention. Recently, a run of one win in eleven has been their eventual undoing, though three successive draws in March against promotion-chasing sides were hardly disappointing results. But the four-one thrashing by Fleetwood Town and the late loss against Port Vale can be described as exactly that. Even recently, the Thursday evening loss against Cheltenham Town a few weeks ago was particularly damaging, as was last weekend’s loss against Tranmere Rovers, ending the game with nine men. With nothing on the line on Saturday, they will be hoping to spoil the potential Walsall party in the away end.

Promotion for the Saddlers looked like a formality back in January. Walsall had won six straight games in December, adding a further three games to that tally in the opening month of 2025. The loss of fifteen-goal striker Nathan Lowe, winner of League Two’s Player of the Season last weekend, appeared to be minimal after he was recalled by Stoke City. But the result that began their downfall was ironically Bradford City, a side they are battling against for automatic promotion this weekend. The Bantams continued their good January by winning in West Yorkshire at the end of January, reducing the deficit to the Saddlers to fourteen points. Since that game, no side have taken fewer points in League Two than Walsall, picking up just sixteen in twenty games. Half of those results have been draws, winning only twice in that timeframe. Last weekend, they lost against Accrington Stanley, with substitute Connor Barrett sent off.

Walsall have fate out of their hands on the final day of the campaign. They currently sit a point behind third-place Bradford, though the Saddlers do have a better goal difference. A loss against Crewe would rule them out entirely, while a point is only good enough if Bradford City lose against Fleetwood Town and Notts County fail to pick up three points against leaders Doncaster Rovers. In simple terms, Walsall must better the Bantams’ result. So three points for the Saddlers will be enough to see them up, if Bradford drop points in their home encounter. It is set to be an enthralling final day in League Two, as all of the top ten have something to play for. The fact that the promotion battle has gone down to the final day is because the three sides in contention have won a combined two games out of fifteen.

This fixture dates back to 1892, when Walsall Town Swifts, as they were then known, won a thriller by the odd goal in eleven. The Saddlers have the edge over history, winning seven more games than Crewe. 22 games have ended in a draw, which has also been a frequent outcome. Three of the last five have ended level, including the reverse fixture back in November, ending in a score draw following a fiercely-contested encounter.
