Our Three Predictions For Stockport County vs Lincoln City

  • First Prediction: Double Chance – Draw or Lincoln City – 17/20
  • Second Prediction: Both Teams To Score – 9/10
  • Third Prediction: Over 2.5 Goals – 21/20

First Prediction For Stockport County vs Lincoln City – Double Chance – Draw or Lincoln City – 17/20

Stockport finally confirmed their play-off place on Easter Monday with a 2-1 win over Huddersfield Town. They still mathematically have a chance of sneaking into the top two but would need to overcome a five point gap on second-placed Wrexham. With just two games remaining, this seems unlikely, especially because Wycombe Wanderers and Charlton Athletic are also above them in the table. As such, Dave Challinor’s side may just take their foot off the pedal a little in order to preserve their squad for their season extension.

It seems as if the bookies are underrating Lincoln a little here. They are over 3/1 to win in most markets but they are renowned for being tough to beat. They have also recorded victories over play-off chasing Reading and Bolton Wanderers in their last two outings, the latter of which effectively saw their top six hopes come to an end with defeat at the LNER Stadium. The Imps also beat Stockport in the previous meeting between the two this season. It wouldn’t be a huge shock to see Lincoln come away with the three points, but with the double chance ranked at just under evens, it’s worth backing this market.

Second Prediction For Stockport County vs Lincoln City – Both Teams To Score – 9/10

Stockport and Lincoln have identical records in the both teams to score market, with exactly 50% of their fixtures achieving this feat. The Hatters have scored and conceded in each of their last three games, whilst the Imps 1-0 win over Reading on Good Friday is their only clean sheet in their last four.

Dave Challinor will be confident his team can find the back of the net, with only Cambridge United and Wrexham stopping them scoring this year. This is even more impressive considering they lost top scorer Louie Barry in January when the 21-year-old was recalled from his season-long loan early by Aston Villa. Meanwhile, Lincoln are also in good goalscoring form. They’ve recorded big wins over Bolton, Bristol Rovers, Crawley Town and Peterborough United in recent months, with January signing James Collins hitting double figures with his brace on Easter Monday.

Third Prediction For Stockport County vs Lincoln City – Over 2.5 Goals – 21/20

On paper, there doesn’t appear to be a lot riding on this game for either team. However, Stockport will be keen to keep their momentum heading into the play-offs whilst Lincoln are aiming for a top 10 finish. Both teams are averaging close to 1.5 goals a game, with Stockport having scored 66 times and Lincoln 62.

This could make for an entertaining affair in this end of season encounter. The Imps have sold out their away allocation and will be cheered on by over 1,000 travelling fans. Michael Skubala will be keen to repay that support and put on a show in their final game on the road this season.

Full Preview of the Game: Last Results and Head-To-Head

Stockport’s place in the top six is now confirmed following a 2-1 win over Huddersfield Town on Easter Monday. The Hatters have been in excellent form since the turn of the year, losing just three times. A 1-1 draw against Peterborough United is the only blip on their record in their last six outings. Aside from that, they have picked up wins over Burton Albion (2-1), Stevenage (3-0), Exeter City (2-0) and Rotherham United (3-1). The Greater Manchester-based side last tasted defeat on March 22nd, when the lost 1-0 to Wrexham at the STōK Cae Ras.

Lincoln will somewhat feel that this season has been a missed opportunity. After narrowly missing out on the play-offs last season, they are having to settle for a mid-table finish this time around. This is mainly due to their mid-season blip, which saw them pick up just one victory in 12 between November and January. However, they are arguably still overachieving based on their budget compared to the rest of the division. Michael Skubala has built a team that is tough to beat though. He may feel that the January arrival of James Collins came a little too late, with the striker having helped himself to 10 goals in only 18 appearances since joining from Derby County. He hit a brace in the 4-2 win over Bolton on Monday, with that result coming three days after an excellent 1-0 triumph at Reading. Still, inconsistency does creep into their game. A disappointing 1-1 draw against relegated Shrewsbury Town followed a 1-0 victory over Huddersfield Town and an admirable 2-2 draw against Charlton Athletic earlier this month.

The Imps were victorious in the previous meeting between the pair in October. Goals from Ben House and Bailey Cadamarteri saw them recover from a goal down to pick up a 2-1 win, which was the first clash between the pair since 2011. Stockport’s last victory in this fixture came in 2008, although they haven’t beaten the Imps at home since 2006. However, there is little between the two teams over the years. Lincoln have win 42 of their previous 107 clashes, with Stockport winning 41 and 24 ending in a draw.
