Our Three Predictions for Walsall vs Accrington Stanley

  • First Prediction: Match to end in a draw – 14/5
  • Second Prediction: Over 2.5 goals to be scored – 17/20
  • Third Prediction: Both teams to score – 19/20

First Prediction for Walsall vs Accrington Stanley – Match to end in a draw – 14/5

With Walsall’s awful drop in form, mixed with the fact Accrington haven’t been as good as they’d hoped this season, this game could well end level at the end of the 90 minutes. Since the Sadlers’ last win, which came in late February, they are winless in 12 games, eight of which have ended in draws. They have drawn more games than they have lost, drawing 14, yet only losing 10. Six of these 14 draws have come at home at the Bescot Poundland Stadium. John Doolan’s side, on the other hand, has won in the last two months, but only three times. In their last five, they have drawn twice, which equates to two of the 14 games that they have drawn this season. This is more games than they have won in League Two. With both sides being on such poor form recently, alongside the fact that the pressure seems to be getting to Mat Sadler’s men, may mean that although both sides will be desperate for a win, this match could end level.

Second Prediction for Walsall vs Accrington Stanley – Over 2.5 goals to be scored – 17/20

This clash is between a side with the best scoring record and a side with the second-worst defensive record in League Two this season. That surely means that this game will be high-scoring, with both sides desperate for points. On average, Walsall score 1.68 goals per game, whilst Accrington score 1.18. Both sides’ defensive record also sit above one, the hosts’ conceding an average of 1.20 goals per game, whilst the ‘Owd Reds concede an average of 1.55 goals per game. Walsall have taken part in 22 matches this season, which have had more than 2.5 goals, whilst their opponents’ record sits at 25 games where there have been three goals or more in one game. Although this one may be close in terms of scoreline, the stats suggest that there may well be plenty of goals.

Third Prediction for Walsall vs Accrington Stanley – Both teams to score – 19/20

Backed up by my previous point, despite their drop-off in recent times, Walsall still have the best goalscoring record in the league, and have still scored six goals in their last five despite not winning a single one of those matches. At the same time, they also have the worst defensive record in the top six, conceding 53 goals, nine of which have come in the last five games. Accrington haven’t scored nearly as many as their opponents, scoring 52 goals, but have scored more than Walsall have in their last five, with seven. However, like the Sadlers, they have also conceded a big number of goals in their last five, conceding 13, and also conceding 68, the second-worst record in the fourth tier, throughout the course of the season. With Walsall struggling for form at a crucial time, alongside the fact that their opponents seem to be on good goalscoring form yet awful defensive form, you’d expect both sides to be able to find the back of the net in this game.Β

Full Preview of the Game – Last Results and Head-To-Head

As mentioned above, both sides don’t come into this game on the greatest of form, Walsall giving away their 12-point lead at the top of the league and not winning in 12 games, which is a run that started in late February. Accington’s form is slightly better, but they have only won once in their last five.

Three points would mean the world of good for either side, Walsall needing points to be reestablished in the automatic promotion spots, whilst the away side, although look to be safe, aren’t mathematically safe from the drop zone. Walsall have got to hope sides around them don’t pick up points, whilst if one of Carlisle United or Tranmere Rovers were to win, Doolan’s side could well be pushed to the final day of the season.

Since 2018, these sides have met just five times, two coming in League One, whilst three have come in League Two. Accrington have won three of the five meetings, whilst the other two are split between draws and Walsall wins. When these sides met earlier this season, it ended 0-0 at the Wham Stadium.
