Middlesbrough look to take their Play-Off aspirations to the final day by defeating out-of-form Norwich City at the Riverside this weekend.
Our Three Predictions For Middlesbrough vs Norwich City:
- First Prediction For Middlesbrough vs Norwich City: Match Result – Middlesbrough – 1/2
- Second Prediction For Middlesbrough vs Norwich City: Both Teams To Score – Yes – 3/5
- Third Prediction For Middlesbrough vs Norwich City: Finn Azaz To Score Anytime – 17/10
First Prediction For Middlesbrough vs Norwich City: Match Result – Middlesbrough – 1/2
Michael Carrick’s Middlesbrough have the tenth-best home record in the Championship this season, with one game remaining. Boro have won exactly half of their 22 games this term, with four wins in their past five. The only loss in that time was against leaders Leeds, winning those four encounters by a single goal. At this point in the campaign, this is imperative to achieve their seasonal aspirations. Only West Brom are winless in more games away from home than Norwich at present, with the Canaries last winning away from Carrow Road at the beginning of February against Watford. In the six games since, they have drawn two and lost each of the last four; therefore, Middlesbrough will be confident of continuing their misery in Norwich’s final away outing of the season.
Second Prediction For Middlesbrough vs Norwich City: Both Teams To Score – Yes – 3/5
This season has been low-scoring by the Championship’s standards, thanks partially to the ridiculous defensive record of the top two. Nevertheless, these two sides rank second and third in the goalscoring department. They delivered a 3-3 draw back in October, while similar drama wouldn’t go amiss on Saturday afternoon. The Canaries have shipped eight times in their past two games, but have managed four themselves. That is no surprise given Leeds are the only side to score more than the 14th place side, but just four teams have shipped more goals this season. Middlesbrough’s 54 against has also been their undoing, meaning an open game with plenty of goals should be anticipated.
Third Prediction For Middlesbrough vs Norwich City: Finn Azaz To Score Anytime – 17/10
Boro’s midfielder has come under criticism during parts of the season, but he has double-figures for goals and assists this campaign. Azaz netted in both Easter encounters, also finding the net during the six-goal thriller between the sides earlier this term. Borja Sainz got two for the Canaries that day, starting the fightback from 3-1 down with his second of the afternoon in the 71st minute. He has only scored twice since November, with Josh Sargent’s fifteen goals going a long way in keeping the Canaries in the Championship this term. Boro will be hoping to exit the division in the opposite direction and have won four of the last five meetings between the sides. Expect Azaz to have a say in moving the Teessiders four victories clear across the history of this encounter.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:
Middlesbrough require three points this afternoon to take their battle for a Play-Off place to the final day. Boro are three adrift of sixth-place Coventry City, after the three favourites for the final two top-six places all lost on Monday. Bristol City missed the chance to confirm their spot in the end-of-season competition by losing at Luton Town, while the Sky Blues were similarly defeated by relegation-threatened opposition in Plymouth Argyle. Michael Carrick’s side were unable to take advantage, losing 2-1 at Sheffield Wednesday. Losses for those sides meant that victories for Millwall and Blackburn Rovers, who have both won three of their last four, are back in the race. This weekend, Frank Lampard’s Coventry will be looking to learn from the Robins’ mistakes when they travel to Kenilworth Road in the lunchtime kick-off. The two outsiders, Millwall and Blackburn, have home encounters against Swansea City and Watford, while Boro are simultaneously in action against Norwich. On Monday evening, Bristol City will be acutely aware of the permutations when they play already-promoted Leeds United.
Returning to Boro, they will be incredibly disappointed at their exploits in South Yorkshire on Monday. Facing an Owls side whose own ambitions of a Play-Off place had come crashing down with a six-game winless streak, Danny Röhl’s outfit turned around a first-half deficit with an 89th-minute winner. On Good Friday, Middlesbrough themselves struck late against bottom side Plymouth Argyle. It looked like this crucial contest was heading towards a stalemate after Fin Azaz and Mustpha Bundu traded blows inside the opening twenty minutes. But Joe Edwards conceded a stoppage-time penalty and was sent off for his actions, before Tommy Conway netted from the spot for a monumental three points. Prior to that, a tricky April had begun in excellent fashion with a Friday evening victory at Blackburn, courtesy of two goals inside the opening ten minutes. But consecutive one-nil losses to Leeds United and Millwall, allowing the Lions into the race for the final two Play-Off spots, had severely damaged Boro’s own ambitions for two further games in May. Whether they take it to the final day hinges on this weekend, but if they do, then a straight shootout with Coventry could be on the cards when they go head-to-head at the CBS Arena.
Canaries’ Head Coach Johannes Hoff Thorup was sacked on Tuesday, following a disappointing campaign. The Dane was tasked with guiding Norwich back to the Championship, which his predecessor, David Wagner, failed to do last season and was sacked following their heavy Play-Off defeat at Leeds United. Hoff Thorup took over in the summer, winning just fourteen of his 47 games in charge across all competitions. Three consecutive losses and six defeats in eight encounters have ended all hopes of a top-six finish for the East Anglian outfit.
That means they will head into their fourth successive season in the second tier, the Canaries’ longest stint at this level since 2005 – 2009, after flipping between the top two divisions in the past decade. Jack Wilshere has taken interim charge for the final two games of the season, where he will face ex-Arsenal teammate Aaron Ramsey next weekend. He is in the dugout at Cardiff City following Omer Riza’s dismissal, after the Welsh outfit lost at Sheffield United last Friday. The 34-cap England international will be hoping to arrest a run of form that saw them ship five against Portsmouth in an eight-goal thriller on Friday, and then concede three at Millwall earlier this week.
