Our Three Predictions For AFC Wimbledon v Port Vale

  • Prediction 1 – Port Vale To Win – 53/25
  • Prediction 2 – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 9/10
  • Prediction 3 – Match To End In A Draw – 19/10

First Prediction For AFC Wimbledon v Port Vale – Bet On Port Vale To Win – 53/25

The League Two season has been a very difficult one to predict, and going into the last two games it remains that way. Port Vale looked to have seized the initiative just a couple of games ago but have since dropped points. This game at AFC Wimbledon may have come at the right time, as the hosts are struggling for goals, and indeed as a consequence positive results. The Valiants have the third best away record in the league, and with just six losses from 22 away days, they will be confident of not making that seven. Given The Dons poor run of form in this latter stage of the season, and even though they have the tightest defence in the division, Port Vale could well grab all the points as they look to cement their chances of automatic promotion, and put a huge dent in Wimbledon’s promotion push.

Second Prediction For AFC Wimbledon v Port Vale – Bet On Both Teams To Score – Yes – 9/10

AFC Wimbledon cannot buy a goal at the moment. Well maybe that is a little harsh as it is only two games that they have been held goalless, but it is the manner of their play that is causing alarm bells to ring. They have gone into their shell in attack, and even though they are hard to break down it is stifling their season. That said they have the second best home record in League Two, and have scored 35 times in 22 home games, and surely with so much at stake they can find their scoring boots again. Port Vale have had to force their way back into the last two games, a 3-2 defeat at Carlisle United when 3-0 down, and then a 2-2 draw against Grimsby Town after trailing 2-0. Before that though they were scoring with ease, two against Bradford City, three at Walsall, and then knocking five past Bromley. This team has goals in it for sure, and away they have totalled 29. This could be a tight game though, but both should get on the scoresheet.

Third Prediction For AFC Wimbledon v Port Vale – Match To End In A Draw – 19/10

With both sides fluctuating in results, it might just be that both settle for a draw in a hugely tight game. Even though both should score, it will be close and very tense, with so much on the line. Wimbledon need a win to keep their fading automatic promotion dream alive, but more importantly to cement a playoff place which is far from guaranteed. The Dons gave drawn 13 overall with five of those at home, so a stalemate is not off the table, even if it still leaves them needing a positive result in their last game. Likewise, a draw is not much good for Port Vale, as it could mean they are on the outside looking in on the last day of the season for the last automatic spot. They do have form for a draw though with 14 overall this season, with an even split of seven home and away. Far from ideal then, but it could well be the best both teams can get.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head To Head

AFC Wimbledon. like so many others at the top, have suffered from some very poor results at the worst time of the season. A team that has an identity, but one that is starting to strangle themselves. Having the tightest, meanest defence in the league, will be of no consolation if the club does not achieve it’s goal of promotion. In fact there may even be question marks over Johnnie Jackson’s approach if they fail to make the playoffs after such a strong showing through the first two thirds of the season. Matty Stevens has 17 goals, but the lack of service in recent games means he has fallen way short of what has been expected, and with the main threat gone it is hard to see where the goals come from. Alistair Smith has impressed in midfield, and the last two games has had to pick up in the absence of captain Jake Reeves who is serving the last of a three game suspension in this match. The back line is solid, and Ryan Johnson, Joe Lewis, is still a formidable partnership. A lot will depend on how much the manager will take his foot off the brakes, and let his team roll forward more freely.

Darren Moore will be wondering what he has to do to get his team over the line. After a run of good results including a 5-0 win over Bromley, they slipped up at lowly Carlisle, and then only an injury time leveller saw them get a point against Grimsby last Monday. So, now they sit in third, and though they have their destiny in their hands, it could be a case of opportunities missed. With a potent attack they will not fear anyone in the run in, and maybe beyond. Jayden Stockley is the man that every team has to stop. A constant threat with his goals, 10, and also assists, seven. A perfect foil is the attacking play of Lorent Tolay, the Swiss striker has 14 goals topping the vale charts, and his eight assists also means that defences cannot switch off. In this high intensity game the back line will need to stay focused, and not ship goals as they have in recent games. For this they will need Connor Hall to lead the line much as he has done for most the season, in fact his 42 games is the most played by any player for the club this campaign. Young Jesse Debrah is also one to watch from the back.
