Our Three Predictions For Doncaster Rovers v AFC Wimbledon

  • Prediction 1 – Match To End In A Draw – 9/4
  • Prediction 2 – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 17/20
  • Prediction 3 – Over 1.5 Goals Scored – 33/100

First Prediction For Doncaster Rovers v AFC Wimbledon – Match To End In A Draw – 9/4

A game that is too close to call will often end that way as both teams often cancel each other out. This could be a prime example of that as both Doncaster Rovers and AFC Wimbledon could play too cautious as to not lose the game, as they chase down the automatic promotion places. Also this season the two sides have played out 21 draws between them, and history between the two also suggests that this will be a tight game. Rovers have drown six times at home, from their 20 played, and Wimbledon have seven road stalemates from the same amount of games. The home side is currently unbeaten in the last four at home, with two wins and two draws, and the Dons have drawn three of the last six away trips.

Second Prediction For Doncaster Rovers v AFC Wimbledon – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 17/20

Both teams would not be so high up in the division if they were goal shy. Even though this has the potential of being a close game, both have more than enough to show they will score goals. Doncaster have hit 61 in total overall, which is five more than their opponents in this game. At home Rovers have scored 32, and this compares to just 19 for the visiting Dons on the road. With so much at stake Wimbledon will be pushing for more goals than that statistic suggests, and will like their chances against a defence that has let in 21 at home, which is a goal a game average. Keeping that up will be key, and therefore Rovers will have to respond, and knowing that Wimbledon have the leagues best defence, they will also see that the game is never over due to the Dons lack of seeing games out late on.

Third Prediction For Doncaster Rovers v AFC Wimbledon – Over 1.5 Goals Scored – 33/100

There has been 15 goals in the last six meetings between the two sides, and keeping that free flowing scoring up means this could well be the safest bet of the day. Yes, again it will be a tightly contested match, but one that should produce goals. Rovers have scored 10 goals in their last four home outings. This might be a hard figure to keep up in this game, but with promotion so tantalisingly close they should have enough to keep the scoreboard lit up. As with the visiting team Wimbledon who are now on the outside looking in at the automatic promotion spots, goals here could see them gain a perhaps unexpected win, but at the same time be enough to make this a sound bet.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head To Head

Veteran striker Billy Sharp has eight goals in this campaign, and even though he may be a little off the pace, his decision making is still clear. His presence alone is enough to keep defences honest, and this has allowed Luke Molyneux to find space to make himself top scorer for Rovers with 13 goals, and he has also provided a huge 10 assists for his teammates from midfield. Grant McCann has managed to keep his side in contention all season and it would be hard on his efforts if they slipped away from the promotion chase at this late stage. Defensively Jamie Sterry has 34 appearances this season, only bettered by Molyneux, and has marshalled a line that for most part has seen lots of changes and a mix of experience and youth. Doncaster do have the automatic places in their sights, but this will be a key game heading into the Easter period.

Johnnie Jackson is having his best year as AFC Wimbledon manager, although the past moth has also been his most trickiest in terms of keeping his team together during a rough set of results. In past seasons the Dons have fallen away when results have gone against them but last week they dug in and grabbed a vital win at home against Harrogate Town, 1-0. Matty Stevens is still in contention for top scorer in the league, his 17 so far has earned him a two-year contract extension. The rest of the team are starting to pick up goals now as the League Two defences have started to keep Stevens quiet. James Tilley remains a threat, as does Josh Neufville from either flank. It is the back line that has suffered a little with some dramatic late collapses. If Ryan Johnson stays fit, he will be key, as will the consistent play of Joe Lewis, and goalkeeper Owen Goodman is having a standout year on loan from Crystal Palace. The message will be clear, win this and it is game on in terms of automatic promotion.
