Our 3 predictions for Swansea City vs Plymouth Argyle

  • 1st prediction: Swansea City to win or draw
  • 2nd prediction: Under 2.5 goals in the game
  • 3rd prediction: Both teams to score – No

1st prediction for Swansea City vs Plymouth Argyle: Swansea City to win or draw – 3/20

Both teams have been poor this season and need a result as we head towards the final weeks of the season. While important, a win wouldn’t confirm anything for either side but would help their respective causes. Swansea have struggled this season and were once in danger of dropping towards the relegation spots, though this threat was never really serious. They’ve picked up under interim boss Alan Sheehan and look to be out of the danger now, though they still aren’t mathematically safe. Plymouth, on the other hand, looked nailed on to go down, having never looked like staying up. A loss here wouldn’t relegate them but would make their job even harder. With their current form and dreadful away record this season, a result for Swansea looks likely which would see them virtually safe and all but relegate Plymouth.

2nd prediction for Swansea City vs Plymouth Argyle: Under 2.5 goals in the game – 3/4

Owing to the struggles of both sides, this likely wont be a high scoring game with so much for both sides to lose. Plymouth in particular will likely set up defensively with their woeful away results and precarious position at the foot of the table. While they have some attacking talent, they will likely face lots of pressure, so won’t have much time to show it meaning they will need to take their chances. Swansea are similar, having struggled to take their chances all season. This has improved under their interim manager, so their chances are higher here than they would have been. Furthermore, with Plymouth’s leaky defence they should have opportunities to score. It’s just a question of whether they can take those chances,

3rd prediction for Swansea City vs Plymouth Argyle: Both teams to score – No 4/5

This is a similar prediction to the previous one. It’s going to be a game of little quality going forward, especially for the away side who look set to struggle again. These are two of the lowest scorers in the league in what will be a cagey affair, with end-to-end football and constant shots unlikely. This is a game which will likely be settled on a single moment for one team, rather than a back and forth of both teams scoring. This is a situation that suits Swansea more as the home side, especially with Plymouth’s away form. If anyone scores, it will likely be the home team.

Full preview of the game: last results and head to head

This is a huge game in the Championship which will shape both sides’ seasons. Nothing will be decided in this game but it will still have a huge impact; if Swansea win they are all but safe, and a Plymouth loss would really dent their slim survival hopes.

In terms of form going into this game, it’s mixed for both teams. Both have won two of their last six, though Swansea have recorded one fewer loss. The Swans come into this off the back of a 1-0 win over fellow strugglers Derby, while Plymouth got a surprise victory over Norwich.

In terms of this fixture’s history, it’s pretty mixed. Swansea have the upper hand with 36 wins to Plymouth’s 33, but in recent games it’s even, with a win apiece in the last two. A home win would see Swansea complete the double though, which would help them no end.
